Early TD6 Opinions

I never thought I would come back to the a L322 but I appear to be looking again.

Seen a nice coloured 2003 TD6 for sale, has 146k on the clock, had a new gearbox at 130k which wasn't too long ago.

Good points are one owner, who has 3 folders of history etc and has always given it what it needs, the MOT history reflects this nicely, so unlike my previous one I'm hoping this one isn't rotting underneath!!

Bad points are that it's an SE, so no xenon headlights, heated seats, parking sensors... All things which never worked in my old one anyway but the Xenon headlights I'd quite have liked!

The condition looks good in the pictures, asking price is £3,450

Any thoughts to add? I'd ideally like it to use as a run around / family wagon as I have a work van I use Monday to Friday so would really be a weekend car/ongoing project!

I would have thought that you would have had a good choice of TD6 at that mileage for that price? Though nice to know that the gearbox has recently been changed.

I get that.

Wasn’t really looking for a TD6, but once I saw this one I was immediately interested.

Most of them at that age have had 5 or 6 owners which really puts me off, one of those owners has no doubt not looked after it, and why did all of them decide to sell it?!

It’s only an hour away, I’ve messaged the seller so maybe will view sometime!

I agree - "one owner" - that's worth quite a lot with these cars.
Would certainly focus my attention.

Subject to corrosion and how many items possibly not working, I'd perhaps be tempted were I in the market.

In case it's relevant, there are a handful of sub-90k thru 140k (TD6) cars on Autotrader at prices between £4k and £8k at the minute.
At least one is one owner.

As Jim suggests, perhaps worth spending a little while "armchair browsing" before committing.

For what it's worth, I really liked my TD6.
Perhaps not as clever as the later cars.
But there was something special about the way that the early cars drove.
Some might say that their handling was unsophisticated - I'm inclined to be less unkind.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

And one or two bikes - Ok, maybe more than one or two....

The best ever FFRR I owned was a 2002 TD6 HSe with I bought in 2009. But this one had been spec'd up with Sunroof, elelc and heated seas back and front, heated steering wheel etc.

Never went wrong in any way for 4 years and had 7 previous owners! Was the most comfortable and reliable ever.

However I think your choice is a tad expensive and you can get a older 3.6 TDV8 for only a little bit more (and it will be at least a vogue!!)

I have run my 2005 TD6 “Sylvia” for coming up 3 years. I do a full fluids service, including the gearbox oil, every 5000 miles and she runs and drives like a dream. She has not rot in her sills and the only thing I have had to replace on her was her F/O/S bottom arm due to a worn ball joint.

I have just ordered a Defender D250 110 XS and am actually thinking of keeping hold of Sylvia as she has been such a great car.

Nothing wrong with the TD6 at all…🧐

Of course, had I thought to check Stacker's "Range Rover Profile" icon before hitting "send", I'd have seen that he may already have pulled the pin. The vehicle showing as his current RR is quite similar to the car we've been discussing.

Not my first online error - won't be my last...

BTW - Jolly nice photo Jim. Car looks great.
