Opinions please!

Morning all. After quite a few years out off a Range Rover I finally find myself in a position to get back into one!
So I've got 2 that I'm considering and was hoping for your thoughts on which one might be the better buy.
Here are the descriptions.
The 22's would be going on the older one and both will be getting a trans service straight away.

Is it a TD6 that you are particularly after? The mid life face lift 3.6TDV8 can be netted for not much more money and is arguably a better car.

Both are probably a bit pricey but prices have been a bit haywire. The black one looks a bit pimped with those led rear lights and Autobiography badge. I’m also not sure of the 22’s. But it does have better mot and service history.

Over £5k for the other one with MOT only until Nov is a bit dicey unless they going to put a new one on.

You could go see the black one. Check the rear sills under the sill covers at the rear door opening and the usual mechanical and electric bits. There is tdv8 in silver for £7500 in Glasgow been on AT for a while and might be a better deal if the price comes down. But VED will be £600 on that compared to £280 odd on the pre 2006 cases.

The black one looks to have the newer touch screen nav but not the facelift headlights which I don’t understand as I thought the newer nav came in with the headlight change.

I saw a few td6 dogs before I got my 4.4 petrol.

Thank you for the input guys.
I really like the TD6 engine and know it quite well.
That said I've I've had no experience with a TDV8.
Would I be right in thinking that the upkeep and maintenance would be more on the TDV8 platform?
Also I wouldn't be paying the prices advertised for the above 2!!

The TDV8 (3.6 & 4.4) is a world away in terms of power, torque and refinement over the TD6. But it depends on what you are after or need. The 3.6 can eat its own turbos but that is probably a noisy minority that get the headlines; no one shouts ‘my turbo hasn’t broken!’ If looked after it is a really nice engine and prices aren’t crackers for this generation L322.

Try and have a spin in a 3.6 (I’m making an assumption that you don’t want to jump to 4.4 prices). If you are close to me you can have a spin in mine if you want. At least you would then know if the differences were important to you or not.

EDIT: just seen that you are in Aberdeen - which means that I couldn’t be further away!! Offer still stands though.

Drive more than one , at the very least try both the td6 & tdv8, the difference is staggering, poles apart in refinement and power. I started with an 02 plate td6 and couldn't belive the difference when I upgraded to a 2010My tdv8. Not too sure if we have any members up that way who could help you with a spin. There's often a few for sale Kintore / Dunecht

I've had a TD6 before and absolutely loved it.
Got quite familiar with its workings too!
Fingers crossed something comes up.

It is definitely horses for courses on this one, I had a TD6 for 11 years then a 3.6, now a 4.4, loved my TD6 as it did everything the other 2 do, we tow 95% of of the time and yes the newer one are better but I would have another TD6 in a heartbeat... getting old probably but it is still a bloody good car if looked after ( gearbox) Thumbs Up

I was looking at this for a winter project but a bit far from me to just pop along and I’d be looking at half price. The Last but one MOT fail was on front subframe which is a bit concerning but passed after that so maybe a new frame put in or just welded up. But makes you wonder what the rear arches will be like.
