Hi Tony,
What you suggest is not a good idea on a MY2017 vehicle, from a legal & resale point of view.
The vehicle will no longer comply with current Euro 6 legislation.

We have to accept that all DPF-equipped FFRR diesels suffer from oil dilution, and this is exacerbated with short trips and failed regens, -there is a ton of info on here if you search the word “regen”.

What to do? There is NO WAY to extend the Service Interval to the official 16,000 miles, -unless you live on a motorway, perhaps. If interim oil changes aren’t acceptable, sell the car.
OTOH, if you are prepared to buy the kit, you can monitor DPF soot and regens cheaply, and do interim DIY oil/filter changes yourself in 20 mins for under £50 without even crawling under the car.
Changing the oil at least twice a year also means you are not “maxing out” dilution to 10% before servicing, in my opinion not a good idea as it increases risk of engine failure.

Keep reading! Thumbs Up

Many thanks. Where could I find idiot guide instructions on how to change my oil without getting underneath the car?

I just did my first change using one of these extractors. Very easy 👍

I bought this which appears to be exactly the same as the £80 Draper version.

The Draper is a 10 litre capacity, and I regularly get 9.25 litre out, so beware !!

@Alan:

NOT the filler hole! Laughing

There’s a special place, check the WM (Workshop Manual) in the Wiki above Thumbs Up

It’s only difficult the first time, then it’s hardly much more difficult than topping up the screenwash or Adblue, or tyres!

Go on, give it a go, Tony! Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I’ve not seen that one before, but it is some years since I bought mine, which has the 10 litre capacity.

Or, if you have a compressor, even easier, and cheaper:

Let it do it by itself while you go and have a coffee Yawn

EDIT: That £44.95 is a great price on eBay, I paid £56.95 for mine from ManoMano! Sad “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

A ”Manual” is something you should read, not something which gives you a heart attack Shocked Laughing
