TD6 lost all drive

First post from a newbie so really hoping for some guidance as this is my first delve into the L322 world (I suspect it won't be the last Laughing )

I'll try and give as much detail as possible on the situation with my daughters car.

2006 Vogue with the 3.0 TD6 and 5 speed GM box.

Whilst driving home she noticed that it seemed like the gearbox wasn't changing up properly doing 70 and at around 3,500 rpm, came up with a Trans something message on the dash (her words not mine) and thinking she could make it home continued to drive like this Shocked came to a roundabout and next thing it's doing 3,500rpm at 30mph and then finally lost all drive and she had to have it recovered home.

I went to take a look the weekend (she lives 120 miles away which doesn't help), car starts no problem, no warnings or errors on the dash, you can select Reverse, Neutral and Drive, no unusual noises or anything. When in Drive or Reverse the car just revs makes no effort to move whatsoever. You can put in Manual mode and select gears 1 to 3 only (not sure if this is normal) but as before just revs in any gear.

Finally just so I think I've covered everything, if you try and select low range the transfer box goes into Neutral and then the low range icon flashes, turn the car off and restart and it's in low range, changes back to high range no problem.

I changed the gearbox oil and filter around 7000 miles ago (been running sweet since then), checked the oil level and it seems OK, but the oil does seem quite dark.

Thoughts anyone? is the gearbox likely to be toast, torque converter gone kaput? anything else worth checking?

England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

The gearbox in those early diesel 322's is well known for failing.... plenty of threads on here about it.... Pete

I would first check that the driveline is connected from the transmission output shaft to the wheels (i.e. there’s no fault with the transfer box, propshafts, final drives or driveshafts). With the selector in Park and the handbrake off, does the park lock hold the car solid if it is on a slope or if you try to push it?
