So, im toying with the idea of Titanium wheel nuts for the FF! A friend gets lots of titanium bolts/racing parts made for the exotic car market and although they are very expensive, is there any downside to using Titanium? We all know about Wrington engineering making Stainless wheel bolts but they are VERY heavy!

Anyone got an opinion?

the chart shows a big reaction with aluminium in sea water...not relevant? salty winter roads may cause issue and no playing in the sea.

I would say...not suitable..

also titanium like aluminium can sieze (pick up, galling) so needs anti–sieze compond which will change the effective torque meaning wheel nuts will be over torqued.(std wheel nuts should not be oiled as you know for this reason.

race cars get taken apart all the time so long term corrosion is less noticable.

I did make some nice lash caps from Ti for a cologne engine in order to correct rocker angle after a bithead modification.

a tyre brand change can save more unsprung weight it is better to have and not need then need and not have

This seems like an excellent move as unsprang weight in a FF is so critical. letters not necessarily in the right order

I’d do titanium wiper arms first, CofG and all that.

Well ive ordered a couple of sets for the RR & er indoors Disco as im sick of JLR's efforts!

Theft will potentially be an issue, you've at least doubled the value of your vehicle LOL

Titanium is a great metal, nightmare to machine and work with, it wont corrode though. I used to work in the Steel Industry and our rolling mill was one of the few that could roll titanium but temperatures were critical, a very narrow window that it could be rolled, outside the window it had to be scrapped and start again. BMW i3 Electric Car

They are making them with a 17mm reverse allen key head (exactly the same as Ferrari ones) so i need a tool to remove them and there's no risk of scratching the alloys installing them

Having just bought the stainless ones and I needed to change a wheel so I thought it might be helpful to crack out the scales. Craig is indeed right the OEM nuts weigh 120gm the Stainless ones 135gm each so a full set of 20 adds about 300gm to the total weight of my Range Rover if i’ve got my arithmetic right - I think I can live with that. The Stainless ones were expensive enough i’m sure the Titanium ones will be be beautiful and practical as well as lighter but probably more expensive again. Geoff

Although the stainless wheelnuts are 300g heavier than the standard ones, the Rangie will have shed more than 300 g of it's metalwork as rust so it's still better  BMW i3 Electric Car

Geoff, its not necessarily the weight aspect im thinking of... More so the long term corrosion (like with your stainless ones) and the aesthetics over and above the standard ones...

I love the way they look on the Ferrari and thought they would also have the same visual effect (and long term corrosion & unsprung weight saving) on my FF
