Aston Martin V8 Vantage Exhaust Mod :D | |
So this has been going on slowly for ages…
Some time in January I was looking for a new exhaust for my 4.2 ff ideally with a valve control to make it sound more meaty.
Anyway a friend of mine had an Aston and after chatting and researching - they are loosely the same engine barring the bigger cc of the Aston and the supercharger on the 4.2…
So then my what if moment… I got on the bay and to my surprise there are a few V8 vantage back boxes on there for £180-600.
I found one just under £200 with worming valves, he measured it and I took the plunge.
The footprint overall is bigger and its a bit taller but the pipe exits are in the same place.
I then went onto Jetex and got a series of bends and set about getting the old one chopped and the new one up.
That was may time and I hooked up a vacuum line and a solenoid to control it. Now this Amy have been enough for most people but in quiet mode it was quieter than stock, loud mode gave it around 5-10% more volume.
I ran like that for a bit but I really wanted more so I looked at the Aston again and aside from the fact they run a slightly bigger bore from the cats to the back they were similar even the cats were. One big difference though… no Center boxes!
So last weekend we cut them out and welded them up and man what a difference.. I’m loving it but it really does sound like a vantage in loud mode even with that extremely raspy exhaust note which I wasn’t expecting.
Quiet mode is still probably about what loud mode was before taking the boxes out with the only exception of planting your foot flat around 5k you get some of that Aston rasp.
Anyway I need to do some drive by videos but here is a cold start and when it’s warm you can hear me switching the valves on and off.
*** I would like to note unless you have a pipe bender and a welder this isn’t the cheapest to do even if you score the exhaust cheap, I ended up getting the design pack bumper which was a massive expense I didn’t cater for as it sits about 7cm lower than stock and the old bumper made that very obvious however this you can’t really see it.
