Rust prevention underneath

2003 TD6, only covers about 1k-2k miles a year. Noticed surface rust on some of the subframe while under it recently, was planning a bit of preventative maintenance. Was going to wire brush off what I can and paint it with something, it hammerite still the best? Or anything else I should use?

I’m not planning on stripping it down to every nut and bolt, just coat the parts I can reach easily with it in off road height while it’s dry outside

Any recommendations gentlemen please?

i'd be tempted to use this stuff..paints straight on to the rusty bits and you'd probably wont have to wire brush it..

As in above post Thumbs Up

Just to add, unless you have almost no rust to start with, then surface preparation is a must, the better the prep the longer the protective coating will work. ALL loose rust / dirt / grease / oils etc should always be removed as part of the prep.

Just had mine done with Fertan and then Raptor, which was recommended to me by one the bigger names in the 4x4 racing world.
Raptor is widely used in the USA - I think on all the GMC vehicles , is inexpensive, easy to apply and very hard wearing. Also it can be touched up later easily. I am told this will last for 10 years.

Raptor is sturdy stuff as long as the corrosion underneath it isn't still spreading as you'll not notice it until its eaten away the steel beneath the coating.
Crackin stuff if the prep is right though. 👍

As a X Defender owner, I second everything above its all down to the prep, especially if you are using some of the more permanent solutions as you’d never spot the rust creep until it’s too late.

I now personally prefer good prep, a few light coats of CIO from Buzzweld and then an annual coating of Lanoguard as it makes it really easy to inspect, and touch up / correct and looks OEM.

That being said I used some EM121 Epoxy Mastic on the arches of the L322 and after 5 years I chipped a few bits off and it was pristine underneath.

The L405 has a generous coating of Lanoguard on it and that’s all and it looks like this:
