Thanks everyone for your input so far..
just though I'd post an update on where I am with this.
I still have the problem and its booked into a local Indy in a couple of weeks as they are all booked up. 5 days after this I am taking the tourer down to the south coast so am cutting it a bit fine as there is no way I will be going in the RR in its current state.
I have been doing some work in the meantime to try and narrow down the issue:
Auxiliary belt taken off and all pulleys checked for play and belts still in brand new condition, all ok
Took pipes off both ends of the turbo and no play in the bearings, just a little oil which I believe is acceptable.
Took for a run and when it started to make the noise i stopped and unplugged the wiring to cylinder 6, continued the drive and the noise is still there. stopped and swapped to each cylinder one at a time with the same result so this may rule out an injector fault.
Managed to get someone to drive the motor for me and so I could get my head under the bonnet whilst they were revving it and listen to the noise..
It is definitely coming from the top front of the engine next to cylinder one which is where the high pressure fuel pump is located.
this is the noise that it makes: (hope this works )

I also manged to get my ICARSOFT tool to connect with the Engine ECU with the help of the developer and so have managed to get some live data. (still not throwing any fault codes apart from glow plug relay fault)
Fuel pressure regulator current ok at under 1 amp at idle
both capacitors at correct voltages
both pressure sensors at correct voltages
low pressure fuel pump sensor shows correct
but...
high pressure fuel pump sensor shows over 60'000 KPA at 3000 RPM, I believe it should be around 48'000!! is this normal??
Manifold pressure shows between 100-140 kpa at both idle and 3000rpm but I believe this is correct at idle but should rise to 260 kpa at 3000 RPM!!
Does anyone have any further checks / tests i can make to further narrow down the issue?
I did notice that cylinder one injector was a bit noisy as when i unplugged it the tapping noise stopped but the motor still started to make the louder knocking even though this injector was unplugged, I believe this will need replacing but is not the main fault i am trying to solve.
Thanks again for all your help.
