United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Rimini Red
Front and rear brake pads and discs

I need to replace the front and rear brake pads and discs on 2008 TDV8 and have been looking on the Island 4x4 website where there is a bewildering amount of choice and prices to match. My front brakes are fitted with Brembo callipers but the rears are not (this was the standard fit I was told).

On front discs there are Britpart drilled and grooved at £29.99 (each?) or Terrafirma at £80. Pads vary in price from Britpart at £17.50 for a set to genuine Land Rover at £64.99 (Brembo pads are £53.20). Rear discs are Britpart at £58.33 and Terrafirma at £65.

What is the general consensus on what brake disc/pads combos to go for? I am thinking of Britpart discs with Brembo pads to front and possibly Delphi pads at rear (£19.99 a set).

Thanks,

Steve

I can recommend Advanced Factors (site sponsor) for your brake parts, and they give a member discount of upto 10% with code AF4LRP

I would highly recommend the (EDIT) Borg & Beck discs they sell, which I've recently tried on my 4.4 TDV8 instead of the Brembo ones I usually buy for all my cars (I still fitted them with Brembo pads on the front).

They have stood up very well to the last few thousand miles, when fitting they looked excellent quality (casting of cooling vanes inside) and haver a nice non-rust treatment which makes them stand up well to the winter salt. No early issues with warping or anything like that which I've seen in the past with some cheaper discs like P@gid from Euro CP.

However, I don't know if they are available for the 4 pot Brembo front brakes, which your's will have. Probably worth giving them a ring though Thumbs Up

Cant comment on the front braking but these pads are OEM parts from main dealer including rear calipers and carriers
that I fitted.

If you can get, genuine discs front and rear. If not then Delphi.

Should do the job.👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Don't know how many times I've said on here "don't buy Brembo branded" from ECP as they are cheap Chinese junk!

What he said......just like in the sun newspaper......the printing on the paper isnt the actual truth....

I'm still in complete bewilderment why they are like this!! Once they come off this week I'll be straight on to ECP and Brembo! all smug in my new plug!

For what it’s worth, suck up the cost of some genuine discs from duckworthparts and get them to price pads too. For the sake of a few quids you will have the best setup.

Some say... green stuff pads are decent too, can’t comment really as I’ve still not fitted them but there are good comments out there. not much Saving over LR pads tho. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Again, they absolutely are not - Brembo do not licence their brand name and are very protective of it, and there’s zero chance of a large, legitimate outfit like ECP selling fakes.

How do these rumours gain traction?

I fitted brembo disc pads on my other car (mitsubishi outlander) and the pads were so hard that they caused uneven disc surface which caused steering shake when applying brake at higher speeds. Thats was the last time that I will ever fit brembo pads or discs on anything. My ff has ferodo pads and rotors fitted by the previous owner and the brake feels smoth and without any problems for the last 2 years. RR HSE 4.4 2006 LPG

On safety related parts - from the manufacture every single time for me.

How many of those that fit non-standard parts have informed their insurance companies then ?

Thanks for all the replies. Who makes the pads and discs for Land Rover? I suspect that Land Rover branded pads and discs are not manufactured by Land Rover themselves. What about Britpart pads and discs? I believe they meet OEM quality. I was also considering Brembo pads for the front and Ferodo pads for the rears.

What about the time needed to replace all four discs and pads? My garage has quoted 4 hours (£220 + VAT) - is that fair?

Thanks again
