I don’t think there’s a specific problem with them failing but you need to bear in mind most turbos will let go at 100K-150K

I know it's the single system, not the twin turbos on the 3.6, but the turbo on my D3 was still the original when the engine let go at 250k. |

Turbos are generally expected to last the life of the motor. My 3.6 has 281,000km, and the motor runs beautifully.

3.6 is a good motor, and they can go on for miles without the turbos letting go, or they can go bang at 100k.

Mine was on 168k on orginial turbos and was running fine when I sold it 6 months ago

Mine now has 145k miles on the original turbos and sounds and feels like new..

A Turbo will last the life of an engine if looked after, allowed to spoil down, idle before shut off and regular oil changes - tell tale signs are blowing oil.

Turbos are definitely cheaper than an engine for sure, not a cheap job to replace for the sake of it tho. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Think I’m going to hold off a couple more months and go for a 4.4 instead, from what I’ve seen they’ve got much less chance of going pop on them, and the 8 speed gearbox seems to be less troublesome too. |

I had a small loan to skip the 3.6 and get the 4.4.....
