Waze/Google Maps does not speak directions?

Hello all,

I have U.S. 2021 SWB. I noticed when I use Waze, I cannot get it or Google Maps or Apple Maps to speak directions or alerts. I am connected via Carplay. Neither when Waze Maps via Carplay is visible or when it is in the background with the radio on, does Waze speak directions.

I've tried, switching Waze settings to talking over the Phone's speaker or as a Bluetooth call without any luck. This works seamlessly in my other cars (Jeep, BMW, Volvo) not in this car. I'm hoping it's simply a setting I am using.

Any pointers?

thanks.

The current version (21A) of the InControl software has a known issue with map announcements over CarPlay.

Quote:
KNOWN ISSUES IN THIS RELEASE
APPLE CARPLAY NAVIGATION VOICE GUIDANCE
Voice guidance is not heard from the Apple CarPlay navigation post-IMC 21A update, JLR investigation is in progress.

Not a good example of software quality checking.

It seems to vary, in the past anything from three to seven a year. 21A was released in May, so hopefully we get one with a fix for this issue before the end of summer (but knowing JLR, don't hold your breath)

The bulletin about it on TOPIx is SSM75415 - InControl Touch Pro - Post 21A Update Apple Carplay Navigation Voice Guidance Not Heard

JLR is investigating the voice guidance is not heard from the Apple CarPlay navigation post-IMC 21A update.

Cause:
Unknown at this time.

Action:

Do not replace Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) for this concern.

Before following the steps below, please check the IMC is at the latest level (21A);
Connect Apple CarPlay device to InControl Touch Pro
Launch any Map application within CarPlay
Enter a destination and start navigation using CarPlay maps
Start driving the vehicle
Confirm turn by turn voice guidance is not heard, but navigation guidance is shown on the screen

There is currently no resolution for this concern, and once a repair is available, this SSM will be updated.

All the models affected by this are:

Discovery (L462) 17 - 20MY
Discovery Sport (L550) 17 - 20MY
Evoque (L538) 16 - 19MY
Evoque (L551) 20MY
Range Rover (L405) 17 - 21MY
Range Rover Sport (L494) 17 - 21MY
Range Rover Velar (L560) 18 - 20MY

So basically any vehicle with InControl Touch Pro, guessing Jaguar vehicles will be affected also. Vehicles with the PIVI system (i.e. new Defender) seem unaffected.

I’m unsure if this is helpful as an alternative? I use the TomTom app on my phone with Apple CarPlay and it works fine on my MY19. The subscription is only about £20 per annum. Much better than the RR sat nav, and includes speed cameras, traffic info, re-routing etc. MY23 D350 HSE

Yes, our other car, the I-pace, behaves the same way. One solution that works for both cars is, while using navigation, to switch the audio source to radio for a few seconds and then back to CarPlay and this restores the audio guidance, for Waze, at least…

And the other bug in the latest release is the car pitch attitude in the 4x4 menu being inverted. I.e. when the car is going up a slope it shows it going down.

I really don’t get their quality control. I also couldn’t work out why waze wasn’t making announcements. 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

Thank You. This works for me until the permanent fix is released. Here are the step by step I gave my wife as well. I hope this helps for others. Additionally, I use a wireless Carplay adapter (I've tested and used CPlay2Air and CarlinKit. I use CPlay2Air as it boots faster) and it works fine there too.

1) Wait for System to boot.
2) Carplay must have started before proceeding.
3) On the upper screen on CarPlay, press the LandRover Icon
4) Choose Source of Radio
5) Wait 5 seconds
6) Choose Source as CarPlay
7) Verify Waze voice directions are working
Cool Choose the source you want (SiriusXM, etc.)
9) Move on

Thanks again!!

One easier way to switch audio source is by using the lower screen. Tap the two bars ( = ) in the mid upper part of that screen and choose source.
