Catalytic converter breaking up.

Heres a new problem, started getting rattling noise from under car at 1400 RPM sounded like heat shield rattling.
Found by getting someone to place engine at 1400 RPM ,and me under car on hoist it was Catalytic converter breaking up inside.
Wow are these Converters expensive $1900 for part alone.
Part ordered have to wait on shipping.
The fun of owning Range Rover never ends !

Having read your post, It all becomes clear to me know a month ago I ran over a large piece of metal , I think it was a government road works sign that had blown onto the road on a windy day.
It flicked up and smacked the two lower parts of r/h doors cutting them badly. I replaced them both. They are just plastic cladding.
It must have also smacked the catalytic converter I did not see any damage on the outside of the cat, but it must has crushed the honey comb inside the cat.
Thank you for the info post I wondered why my cat just started rattling.
Thanks for sharing.

In that case it is a traffic accident and your insurance should pay for the damage, cat and doors...... Thumbs Up Pete
