TDV8 whistle

Experiencing a few issues in my 3rd day or Vogue L322 ownership 😂 suspension compresser issues and tail light which I have resolved myself with input and researching on this great site

However I’m not sure I can fix this one !
I have a whistle from about 1500rpm to 2500 which I can hear under acceleration

After some pointers ,could this be a boost leak and how can I check it (hope it is )
I’ve had a look at the 2 top intercooler hoses and also took the engine cover off
Looked at the 2 left and right short rubber pipes all seem fine , I’ve checked around the egr also , I can hear a faint whistle when the engine is revved in park , but I don’t get the full on whistle untill under load , would an exhaust gasket leak cause a whistle ,
I haven’t got any restricted performance messages or Eml lights or any smoke or smells of any kind if that helps with diagnoses and mpg seems very good almost too good ? very little on the site regarding whistle ! I’m praying that it isn’t turbos on there way out , any help would be greatly appreciated , garage I go to is great but a 2 week waiting list
Cheers Ian

Ireland 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Zermatt Silver

Some inlet manifolds have cracked causing a whistle.
They are plastic and some members have repaired them with epoxy or JB Weld.
Test for leaks and splits with a smoke machine to help track it down
Good luck with it 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Yes very Good advice , DM gave me some good pointers when I had the Disco 3
I’ve seen that he has done numerous warped exhaust manifolds also for TDV8 if that’s what this turns out to be.

Check the under side of the engine cover for oily/Sooty marks - mine provided a great clue as to where the leak on the manifold was.

Brilliant thanks ,I’m going to go have a look
See if I can see any sootyness , I looked around the pipe work I could see last night and cleaned everything up mainly just intercooler hoses though there seemed to be a lot of dirt kind of oily grime on the left hand side one where it connects to the intercooler ,but couldn’t find a split so tightened it up a bit more and cleaned away the gunk , I’ve got an egr blanking kit coming tomorrow so I’m going to fit that also not sure if faulty egr can whistle ,

does the intake manifold crack in the same place is it a common fault , I will take some photos if I can find any damage to it , thanks for the heads up with the engine cover contamination I didn’t notice it last night but it was half light with an iPhone torch when I was messing about with it 👍

Inlet manifolds do crack, and cause oily deposits on the soundproofing

Usually, it will cause an ESF warning, and drop into restricted performance etc with a split manifold Thumbs Up

Thanks for the reply Mikey
Weather was rough last night so didn’t get a chance for a proper look , I’m going to try a bubble test with a bit of soapy water on the seams , I don’t have any restricted performance codes at moment or smoke of any kind just a whistle that’s matured since I’ve picked the vehicle up 5 th day of ownership ,but I haven’t put it under any flat out or wide open throttle situations yet as was frightened it might crap it’s turbos , hopefully it is the intake manifold crack and not broken nuts or studs and warped exhaust manifold , if it is the exhaust manifolds is that something that I could travel up to Dundee from Berwick and have you do within the day once booked in ? Or is it a mammoth job time consuming.
Cheers
Ian

RH is much easier than LH

Id allow a few days for workshop scheduling, and any unforseen works that may crop up

I do have a courtesy car available, for the duration Thumbs Up

Doesnt sound like a turbo issue.

Have you looked for the inlet issue. Its more and more common as they get over 10 years old.

I think the plastics are drying out.

I have a few tips to fix if you want to pm me once checked with soapy water. __

I will get the soapy water check done this weekend , I’ve got some methacrylate structural adhesive requisitioned from work
Which I’ve used to good effect on various things never an inlet manifold though , I will indeed give you a pm very much appreciated 👍
