LR Cost Cuts? 'New' Smart Key Design

Hello

Just been looking at the MY2012 manual on Topix and the 'Entering the vehicle' section has shed some light on something. There are apparently now 'two designs of smart key.' The first, the same as has come with the MY10+ and a second more plasticky, cheap looking key from the drawings. The second key doesn't have the metal 'RANGE ROVER' letters and you have to take a plastic cap off to get the key if you need it rather than sliding the metal out.

Now, I may be getting this completely wrong, but do you think this is LR producing a 'cheaper' key for the Evoque and they will supply this on the lower models in the range from next year?

Could be something completely different of course...but functionality looks exactly the same.

Regards,

johnson1

Update:

Was looking through these photos http://gallery.me.com/bessadas#100032&view=mosaic&sel=0 and there is a photo of the Evoque key - different from RRS/RR models and matches the one in the 2012 RR owner's manual. Therefore, I am thinking that Evoque models and maybe some FFRR models will have this key which definitely looks very plasticky!
