Just discovered one of the roof rail trim caps is missing. Are these readily available? Searched the usual suspects to no avail (unless I'm using the wrong terminology). Thanks in advance.

I am assuming that the rail is inserted into the gutter as on a 2006, if that is the case, I imagine that a main stealer would only supply a whole rail ( Probably a pair ) expensive. If no one has a spare try several breakers, you would probably have to buy the rail insert? but it should be quite cheap, especially as there will not be a big demand for these. You might get lucky and just get the insert that way.

Somebody was 3d printing these and selling them on eBay, can't see them now though... the complete rails are very expensive to replace, there are some second hand ones on eBay but they want £150 for them  Pete

Think I have found what you want on the above E-bay link, in Blue for £10 including postage. Some others have posted for same parts at £20, still better than expected, I hope.

They are quite difficult to get in without breaking them IiRC Pete. Not even sure they can be fitted from the top, pretty sure that the rails have to come off so that you aren’t forcing them in. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had a good look at mine this morning, ( Standing on a small ladder, in the rain - as you do )
I think that the whole rail has to be taken out of the gutter. A decent trim tool kit would make this easier. I hope!!!

They do come out, a monkey removed one of mine in Longleat.....
Need to be very careful with them as they are quite flimsy. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

nmj - I now have this mental image in my head of a monkey waving a roof rail insert at you, whilst you go completely mascara, ( Go apeshit would be too bad a pun ) whilst trying not to swear in front of the Missus and kids

Mind you, it appears that those monkeys in Longleat have more skills than some car mechanics I have met over the years.

Yes, they can be removed, and I assume installed, from the bottom side of the rail.

The issue is that the official instructions for installing the roof rack say to flip up this piece and then cut them out! If you follow these instructions they can never be reused.

I used a plastic trim tool to carefully pull up those rails and found that yes, they can be carefully removed.

You may end up breaking some of the clips that hold the rail down to the roof. There are two different types of clips that hold the rail down:

(1) White Clip: LR014488
(4) Black Clips: DBE000011

These are available through either your Land Rover dealer or on eBay.

I also noticed that the screw hole is empty! There is supposed to be a screw in there when you don't have a roof rack installed. I'm assuming this is to keep the threads clean and possibly to prevent water from leaking into the car (I don't know this is correct).

I haven't been able to find the official Land Rover part number for this screw but you can buy them online.

If you want to replace this you want an 18-8 Stainless Steel Cone-Point Set Screw, M8 x 1.25 mm Thread, 20 mm Long.

If you can't find any over there this place in the USA has them:

Don't worry, the threaded hole is blanked, not straight through, so don't worry about water ingress.

The bits mentioned are simple 'stainless steel grub screws' to keep dirt out of the threads to keep them clean, as cleaning out dirt / rust filled threads would be a pain, and could entail the use of a thread tap.

Grub screw, cup point, allen head, stainless steel, M8 thread ( Coarse not fine ) length 20mm, just fit with a dab of grease.
