Skiing

As summer is damply coming to an end and my friend in Kitzbuhel said they had snow last night my thoughts are turning to falling down mountains. I hope to spend Christmas in Zurs but am looking for alternate resorts, Verbier is being suggested. Are any of you able to make recomendations of good accomodation or alternate destinations. letters not necessarily in the right order

To early to contemplate yet, even as one who lives for the couple of weeks on snow every year!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I was in Andorra (El Tarter) on Friday - sun was out and it felt a bit weird going into the apartment full of winter gear - looking forward to December though Thumbs Up

I think there is another Soldeu trip on the cards next year Alistair. Ive heard mumblings, but the Naudi is shut at the moment for renovations, so they are talking about the Montana instead. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

They seem to be doing a huge amount of work in Soldeu at the bottom of the lifts - al, in readiness for the world championships apparently.
I’d expect any renovations at the Naudi to be done in time for the winter season surely ?

@op,

Depends on what type of skiing u r looking for. Piste cruiser or off piste powder hound? Wanna heli-ski or potter from bar to bar?

I find the snow is best in the states (rockies not east coast) if u like powder and can put up with limited apres ski fun. Aspen/vail is great and telluride even gnarlier but max vertical is only 2-3,000 with max vertical at Jackson hole 4,500)

In Europe xmas wise I like zermatt (more old money type as opposed to Verbier’s yoof profile) for its 7,500 ft vertical and great xmas new year celebrations, along with great restaurants and bars, but I like Austria (hinterglemm saalbach for the “zirkus” (look it up) - st anton, zell am see, alpbach and resorts near Innsbruck for small transfer times (1 hr) and great “gemuetlichkeit”.

I tend to avoid France at xmas (had an appalling time in morzine once) - Verbier is a blast at xmas and new year (the British army ski teams are there and throw some great parties) but expect to queue, pay a lot and have to book to get in anywhere.
