United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black
Advice on Selling Spare or Repair

Hi all,

Got a 2002 Range Rover Vogue with the 4.4 V8 BMW petrol engine. Unfortunately the auto gearbox has gone and the mechanic *thinks* it’ll be a £2k fix.

That’s out of the question on my budget unfortunately so I’ll have to move the car on. I’m not a mechanic myself so I can’t break it, but I wondered if someone could suggest the best place to sell it and give me an idea of what I might get for it.

It’s got 158k on the clock and is in average condition for the year.

Cheers

Being an older RR, second hand auto boxes should be cheap as chips to find therefore getting her back on her feet may not be that expensive? That's of course if you want her back?
Otherwise, a simple advert on fleabay 'spare or repairs' will have it gone in no time & you're not left with a bare shell to get rid of. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I would second the route of getting a used gearbox.
Try another mechanic and get an estimated cost for swapping boxes, also depends on the costs versus value of the vehicle obviously. But sometimes FFRR owners don't seem to use that logic.

As above, I’d be thinking of looking elsewhere. When my transmission failed in my old car I shipped it off to Birch in Liverpool. They were very helpful and I was soon back on the road Thumbs Up

Depends how long you can live without it tbh. If you can do without it for a week or two do it yourself with a friend

Thanks for the responses. It seems things look a little brighter. Funnily enough I’ve had to abandon the car at my parents’ in Liverpool so the recommendation for Birch is ideal. Will give them a call and get a definitive diagnosis.

If you do go with Birch, don’t expect a pristine dealer workshop. The building (assuming they haven’t moved) is ‘unique’ with cars dotted around everywhere but I couldn’t fault the work they did for me. 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀
