2020 Deployable step obstruction still after motor change

Hi, having fun with my 2020 ffrr it has deployable side steps but as per many threads on here they have issues, I lubricated and cleaned then brackets no luck, so brought a new left rear brackets with a new motor thinking change it and it would fix it, unfortunately it was a no the step did exactly what it did before opens and the jumps back says there is an obstruction and won't go in.

So thought maybe disconnect the battery for a couple of minute plugged back in and still that same.

Any ideas? Have a I missed something or a step, help!!

Thanks

Is the front bracket moving freely? Maybe worth taking the step off and seeing if there is a difference as the obstruction error is due to motor current draw. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I've just had the same with mine. They need calibrating after a hinge/motor change.

Have you checked the front bracket is very free? 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

Mine was stuck out the same as Fez's. It's one reason I sourced the motors and hinges in bulk. Mine had both hinges and the motor swapped and it does exactly the same as Fez's now - goes right back in again. The calibration thing I touched on in more detail on this topic the other day.

The IID tools have a thing to do it, not all tools do. Mine is going in Sytner to be calibrated. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

I'm sure you guys will have tried this....but when mine have gone temperamental one of the things that worked for me was to kneel ready next to the car, open a door and grab/pull the step as it tried to start. If you can manually pull it all the way out with the motor operating, it will generally stay. May also need to be there in a similar postion to be ready to push it back in. The extra manual force keeps the sensor happy - otherwise it reverses as soon as any resistence detected. Getting over the sticky bit is the break-through. Usually only needs two or three of manual assists and a few extra squirts of lube to get it going again on its own. Mike - MPx

Thanks all,

Front bracket is free, even tried it with the step removed same issue.

Ok so sounds like a calibration issue, strange it is exactly the same as the one I took off. Maybe its just confused where it is.

I did manually push it all back in and it deploys and does the same thing and then just does not want to go back in, worried I am going to clip it one day.

Stuart you will have to let me know if the trip to Sytner fixed it.

There's plenty on here who will testify to the fact that I'm no mechanic but are the hinges shoving the steps out in perfect parallel because if not one will pull the other to one side it'll sense a problem and they'll go back in. Although if the steps are removed as above this shouldn't happen anyway.

See - I said I wasn't a mechanic Rolling with laughter Geoff

When I bought mine recently, I noticed the right one was deploying out but wouldn’t deploy back in. Would get about halfway, then go back out. We put it on the left at the dealer and found a broken bracket. As mentioned, I gave it a nudge to seat all the way back agains the vehicle, then turned them off. The dealer is sending me a new OEM bracket. When it arrives, it may go in the attic. I think I prefer the vehicle without the running boards.
