United States 2013 Range Rover 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black
2013 5.0 SC L405 Knocking/Rattle at Idle

Hi there, I have this knocking/rattle type noise on idle and nobody seems to know what it is. I just had the supercharger snout replaced last month because the dealer said that was what was causing the noise. Picked up the car and of course it's not fixed. I have a 2010 Sport 5.0 SC which sounds normal at idle so I definitely know there is something wrong with this one. Here are 2 videos of the noise - any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried listening with a mechanics stethoscope around the engine?

They're dirt cheap and may help determine where its coming from.

First check, look at all the pulley wheels etc, from the sounds heard, I would get this investigated pronto, also good advice in the above post.

Really difficult from a cell phone clip... Sort of sounds like a timing chain rattle to me but yours should have the later guides anyway...

How much do you have to rev it for it to go away...??

Did they check the supercharger bearings that are not in the snout..??

How many miles has it done....

Easy way to narrow it down is to start taking the drive belts off, run the engine for a short time without the first, second etc belts and see if the noise is still there, this will tell you if it's ancillaries or the engine... Thumbs Up Pete
