As the thread title notes, I am getting a Trans Failsafe Prog (TFP) message. When I check with Testbook (T4), it shows P1845 - CAN Bus ABS timeout error (maybe not unreasonable, see below).
Now for a bit of background: RRPhil has previously indicated the order of checking for TFP is:
Transfer Case Transmission This is where it gets murky... I replaced the battery a month ago (with the same brand/model Calcium that I've been running for the past few years) but the battery voltage seems a bit low at 12.42 volts after an overnight charge then 30 mins of park lights being switched on. I may have to take it back to the importer for checking. My ABS module is (slowly) winging its way to the UK for repair by ACTronics. (it was posted Express post on 20th April but, looking at the tracking information, it doesn't appear to have reached the UK as yet. ) As a result of no ABS module, there is no valid speed available to the transmission nor transfer case. The transfer case won't change range - that may be a function of no ABS signal. T4 reports, when looking at the transfer case, the L322 is doing 319mph when it is stopped! Probably why the transfer case won't change range. T4 doesn't indicate any transfer case errors. (Loss of the ABS module affects a lot of stuff- speedo, ABS, odometer, park distance control, cruise control, emergency brake assist, dynamic stability control, hill descent control, air suspension, and who know what else!) Because of the all bongs caused by all the above, I have no idea when the Trans Failsafe Prog error started. I only noticed it on Saturday but I'd say less than a week ago. I would have noticed the message even though I wasn't religiously checking the message centre. I guess I'm clutching at straws assuming the fault may be a low battery voltage. The T4 error message of CAN Bus timeout doesn't gel with the transmission website statement of low voltage. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Ron B. I've been driving it for nearly a month without the module and about 5 months with it being faulty, i.e., with the DSC light on. Everything else worked.

I guess I'm a bit fortunate. I trained as an electronics tech and worked in the international telecoms business for 37 years so the terminology is familiar to me. I need to find some of those needle like probes for my workshop - I could make some from my wife's sewing needles I might put my oscilloscope on the CAN bus wires for a bit of a look see. I'll put my multimeter across the wires, too. I might need to slip 120 ohm resistor leads down the pins like he did with the probes. That would terminate the CAN Bus correctly. A member of the AULRO forum suggested that transmission speed information might come from speed sensors in the trans:
That may well be the case and would go a long way to explaining why my trans seems to be working OK. Where's RRPhil when you need him? Ron B. VK2OTC 2003 L322 V8 Auto 2007 Yamaha XJR1300 Previous: 1983, 1986 RRC; 1995, 1996 P38A; 1995 Disco1; 1984 V8 County 110; Series IIA |
