If it’s a public right of way which you’re entitled to drive on, why would you need any special kind of insurance? |

A Green lane is just an unsurfaced road, you do not require extra insurance to drive on one and you are not offroading per se. Use a pay and play site or a private track and that is another matter.

The designation of green lanes as actual roads may be fine for all I know.

I take mine shooting which can involve quite a lot of driving off road and it has never occured to me that I might not be insured. So as a result of this thread I checked my policy with NFU and can't see a problem. Neither can I see a problem with the policy for my Mini which is insured with LV. Not that I want to take it offroad! |

My policy certificate (Ageas) has exclusions including "off road events, track days, rallies..." I wonder what the "event" bit means, like, if I just happen to drive down a green lane on my own then I should be insured, but if go to a meet up with other vehicles and do the same it becomes an "event"?

Whilst I’m in no way condoning such tactics, I’ve heard stories about people not admitting the damage to the bodywork was incurred whilst off-road.
