Urgh - back from half term in Devon with the family and I discover that some absolute Censored bunch of Censored Censored bin men have dented and scratched my driver's side rear door... I guess that'll be a call to Chips Away.

In other news I have noticed this odd white powder coming from what looks like a swollen seal on the passenger side of the upper tailgate:

And this is the state of my wheel arches, really think I need to get them done:

Finally - had to pick the daughter up from a party where the parking of other parents' cars can only be described as sub-human, this meant the drive was completely filled. Fortunately I went in the Rangie so was able to abandon it with the hazards on while I legged it into the maelstrom of cake and squealing to retrieve her:

Lots of us have binned those upper tailgate strips. They do f all anyway imho.
Peel off, clean area off. Looks better off anyway IMHO

One of the first jobs I did on mine was to remove the arch liners and clean up/rustproof the seams. Remove the sill covers while your at it and pump with cavity seal. I also got extra lengths of the knock-on seam protector as it only covers one half as standard.

I didn't stop there either and went the full underseal with Lanoguard. Looks lovely underneath and smells of sheep Confused 2011 Vogue SE TDV8

Passed MoT with only advisories that oil is leaking... Rolling Eyes why can't JLR ever make an oil plug that actually plugs the hole?!

Anyway, had my first heart attack moment on Friday night, driving in the torrential rain - yellow warning triangle pops up in the centre dash: Water in fuel, check owners manual. So, I think, yellow warning, I'll get where I'm going as it's not far and then I'll have a look.

Obviously there is nothing whatsoever in the owner's handbook about this warning. Again, great job JLR, I presume they just sit in their offices laughing to themselves at the effect this has on the poor saps who buy their stuff Wink .

As usual, this forum to the rescue, I gather it's most likely duff wiring to the bottom of the fuel filter (which was replaced when serviced a short while ago). The light kept going out and coming on again for the rest of the day. Now it's drier out, I haven't seen the light again. I'm assuming I went through a deep puddle faster than I should and it came up inside the engine bay and shorted something... 2012 L322 TDV8 Vogue SE: Buckingham Blue

Still wrangling with the insurers for Viridor, the company which employed the binman who took a chunk out of my door...

In happier news, had a little trip to Devon again with the children, having secured a rack for four bikes:

Another good trip to Devon (in-laws have a place there) and proved I can cram in as much stuff as I used to fit in the Defender.

Still not getting a full gauge on the dash when I brim the tank so might have to brace myself for cutting a hole in the carpet and soldering near an open fuel tank... thank goodness it's diesel! 2012 L322 TDV8 Vogue SE: Buckingham Blue

You don't need to cut a hole in the carpet - it lifts up to access the inspection cover although I will admit it puts up a fight! Bish.

Update post:

Good news! The binmen paid up and my dent has been repaired by the wonderful people at Chips Away in Guildford (no affiliation other than I have used them twice and both times had excellent results).

Two good trips recently, firstly to Doncaster (from Hampshire) to help my Dad look over and buy a 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography, one owner and low mileage... hopefully he got a great deal, it looked good and drove well. Time will tell. The motorway run back down the M1, just shy of 200 miles, returned a real 33.5mpg which was pleasant.

Just got back from half-term in Devon with over 500 miles on the trip computer and the range is still showing at over 50 miles - this machine is brilliant!

I'm contemplating a short trip to Switzerland in January and coming to the view that if I do go, it'll be in the Rangie rather than my (admittedly faster) BMW coupe...

Oh, and I forgot to add that having cut the carpet on one side (torx fitting in the bolt head has been rounded out so couldn't get one "handle" off!) and wiggled the wiring, my fuel gauge seems to be playing ball again. 2012 L322 TDV8 Vogue SE: Buckingham Blue

It’s service time, it’s in with Tom Lenthall and I’ve just had a phone call that will give me nightmares for a few weeks…

Front suspension bushes are shot, apparently this means new arms.
Rear brake hoses corroded, they’ll need replacing.
Rear bushings need renewing.
EGR cooler assembly is leaking oil everywhere and the coolant level is apparently low - suspicion is that they’re mixing and so a new unit is required.

I mean, I know it’s a 10 year old car and they’re complex and she’s done over 90k miles now, but Shocked ouch… I wasn’t ready for that lot!

Still, when she performs like she did on my recent trip to Scotland (1,100 miles in three days!) and looks this good, it’s hard not to just pay up…

My oil cooler was leaking when I bought it, at just over 4 years old, so I’d say you have done well there…..

Had to have my rear brake pipes replaced a year ago. About £350 at a specialist I would imagine.

Make sure they flush the coolant a few times… prob got oil in it…

Deep joy I know….

Other bits you could argue are consumables, but that doesn’t help when it all comes at once…

Just had Bodsy on the drive at my Dad's house doing all the fluids on both our Range Rovers.

Looking forward to the next, gentle, drive to see how smooth it will be.

I'm hoping that is the end of the expenditure for this year, other than fuel, tax, fuel and fuel... Whistle 2012 L322 TDV8 Vogue SE: Buckingham Blue
