I'd much rather have that 2 door Range Rover sitting in the back corner of the garage

Have you had an XJS before? I enjoyed my little money put when I had it, but there are certain variants you should avoid with the proverbial bargepole! |

Ah, one has basically crossed my path out of the blue, old pal has a garage , he owns loads of toys, took this on from an estate sale, has done it for the challenge basically, loads of mechanical work done, new stainless exhast just fabricated too. Interior hasn't been touched, body needs a good machine polish etc, it's the big 5-0 this year for me , I don't need another watch , plus this will be cheaper in the short term (see the man maths creeping in )...

Sorry to say, but at that age, it doesn't matter whats been spent on it, it will always need the same again. I went for a post 1992 facelift version, which had all the old Jaguar issues sorted out and was actually the right size (long story there), but in hindsight, the only ones that you can rely on are the Celebration series from 1994 onwards. I get the appeal of an old V12, but the celebration 4 litre v6 gives better performance for nearly twice the fuel economy. |
