Tailgate removal & re fit

Bit of a weird one I know. Anyone know how involved it is to remove the tailgate & re install on the l405? Long story short. Somehow the rear windows been smashed & I’m being quoted £700 for a replacement. If that’s not bad enough it seems the glass is hard to get hold of at the moment. Seen a tailgate in black complete on eBay for half the above price.

I had to loosen mine to re-align it and did take the electric struts off to figure out why the tailgate was sagging. This was a few years ago and the problem was not that common then and no one knew what to do. i's now well documented.

Anyhow, removing the tailgate is not difficult it is just nuts and bolts. however, it is very heavy. So it is definitely a 2-man job.

I would suggest removing the spoiler( bolts), loosening the tailgate bolts (nuts), removing the struts on the tailgate ends, unplug the wires, then removing the whole tailgate.

I gather there's only one type of tailgate, all have a heated element and wiper but not all may have the same camera or tint on the window (normal or privacy)

Anyhow, I'd go for the used one if it is in great condition - take a few pics and let us know how you did. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Have you checked with your insurance ? I think most companies cover all windows (and not just the windscreen itself) under the windscreen clause where you just pay a set fee & not counted as a claim.

As above, call your insurance. Even if you had a moment of dumb****ery to break the window they should cover it. At very least it’s worth an ask. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Checked out the insurance. Not insured for windscreen cover from last renewal as I didn’t instruct them that I still wanted it.
Anyway I’ve took the plunge and booked it in to have standard tint & have it tinted to privacy spec. £400 rather than £680 for the privacy one. Yes I’m being a tight arse.

Wow - I didn't realise windscreen cover had been made optional by some companies.

I guess it's just part of the race to the bottom price wise for the comparison sites.
