Hi Rob,

I'm afraid I went a bit OTT and bought the entire pipe units for both leaks, but just replaced the top pipe O rings as the leaks were at the top of the engine and I didn't want to have to go deeper to disconnect the bottom ones.

The leaky O ring to the oil cooler I think also is on the pipe that also cools the EGR. Part number LR022718. I just bought the part then took its O ring out so I didn't have to disconnect the existing one.

This is the offending pipe, and the O ring inside was completely perished, so disconnecting it to do the oil cooler must have finally screwed it. I tried to find the O ring size and type but wasn't sure what it was made of and its exact size. £25 for the whole pipe assembly:

The other O ring is on the small pipe coming off part number LR029140. Be careful as the smaller cross pipes that connect to the main pipe have a fragile connection that can snap. The leaky O ring was coming from the small pipe with the clip on - and NOT the one with the yellow bit attached. It's down to the slight right of the V under the manifold (as you look at the engine).



I did search quite hard for a LR specific coolant pressure tester but no joy - or v expensive. The set I bought (an eBay gamble) has the right fitting for the TDV8 expansion tank and worked very well. £50. I think a handy tool for testing cars we are thinking of buying as coolant leaks are often ignored, sometime tough to locate, and can lead to big problems longer term. Good luck and keep us posted - there are more O rings in my 2012's system to perish yet!

Hi Rob. No didn’t lose much. I did it when I changed the oil cooler (I replaced the whole unit) and, on triumphant and lovingly cleaned assembly of the new oil cooler and decoked manifold, I then spotted coolant leaking below. I soon spotted the leak so had to remove all the gubbins again to get to it. I don’t know if it was leaking before but disconnecting and reconnecting it obviously loosened up the seal and I found the O ring looking rotten so replaced. No big gush of coolant when disconnecting from memory as near the top of the engine. Good luck!

Australia 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Bournville

10 & 11 is the EGR valve, with 10 probably the actuator. The cooler comprises of 13 and 15, with 13 located inside 15. 2 is the oil filter and cooler which sits atop the EGR cooler.

Mine turned out to be a small leak from the EGR cooler which sits below the Oil Cooler in the V.
A small amount of red crystalline residue was seen sitting on the block in the V once the inlet "donut" was removed.
All stripped out, inspected, cleaned and new EGR gaskets fitted. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
