How long can the battery last and is it better to cut it off

Hi,

My 2010 RR 5.0 supercharged is here!
I plan to only use it for long trip once a month.

How long can I let it stay parked without losing the battery?
If I cut the battery off will it need a long protocol to restart it?
My Lotus Evora was a nightmare to re-initiate after a battery cut.

Thanks.

Don't think it is possible to be definitive as to how long the battery will hold its charge. So much depends on the condition of the battery and if the vehicle is causing it to lose charge.

Rather than disconnecting it I would connect a smart charger to maintain it at a good level. John

I cannot do that as I am renting the park place and there is no electricity in it.

Pity. Your choice would appear to try it to see how it lasts or disconnect it if it doesn't last the time interval.

If you didconnect it you must follow the procedure outlined in WIKI at the top of the page. On reconnection, with the engine running, you thenneed to turn the steering from lock to lock toreset it. Apart from that there are really only minor things to reset eg. the clock. John

Solar powered battery conditioner would work.

A battery and car in good condition should be able to handle that. Heck I do that for airport parking.

However doing that every single month and then just have one journey. That is not great for the battery, nor good for the car in general.

As others have said the reinitialisarion is simply repower, stand and full lock to the left and to the right. Only thing that seems to forgot is time and date annoyingly. Everything else is just fine.

What l would recommend is that you fit a battery isolating switch to the existing battery, ie the starter battery.
You then need to buy a smaller second battery say 50AH that you can sit in the boot.
You connect this battery to the +12V feeder cable to the rear fuse board and to a convenient earth point nearby.
The two batteries will then be connected in parallel and will charge simultaneously whilst you drive the car.
When you park the car you disconnect the starter battery using the isolating switch leaving the car to operate on the rear battery whilst you are not using it.
When you come back to the car simply switch on the starter battery which will still be fully charged and away you go.
This set up works without fault, l have used it for years on this car.

You don't need to connect the second battery permanently if you choose not to, you could just connect the second battery as and when required as long as lt was fully charged.
If the car is in a secure area you could even sit the second battery in the boot and run a two core cable out of the boot and plug it into the appropriate tow plug if you have one.

A solar charger may keep it topped up but where to mount it. In the car behind glass might make it theft proof but it might overheat. (It would here in Oz.)
Cheap solar chargers don’t put out a lot of current so they may or may not work for you. But they aren’t expensive so could be worth a try. Ron B. VK2OTC

Very Happy I fixed a small (12" x 8") boat deck flexible solar panel on the roof, cable in through the now redundant TV aerial, ran it along inside the roof liner and down the a-pillar and through the bulkhead to bolt onto battery....car now can sit for a month and fires up straight away with no spurious messages! Jobs a good 'un. You can only see it if you are 7 feet tall or in a helicopter.

When we spent 6 months overseas I disconnected the batteries on mine and my good ladies cars, both had plenty of power to start both cars when we returned so you will be fine if you do have to just disconnect them...

Both were left in the cars which were outside on the drive over the winter months...

Neither were new and shiny batteries...

I'd do what others have suggested if you can, just sharing info on how long the battery is likely to last... Thumbs Up Pete
