Ignition Switch

I am having problems with the ignition switch on my 2006 TD6. The key turns without any problems but the ignition sometimes turns on but most times nothing happens. If I buy and fit a new ignition switch is there anything I need to be aware of like key coding etc?

You can change just the bottom part below the barrel, it doesn't need coding...

Your symptoms don't always point to the switch itself, you need to read the codes to see if something else is going on.. Thumbs Up Pete

I had similar symptoms in my 2004 V8. I'd put the key in, everything would unlock, turn to position 1 & 2 all ok with dash lights etc, then try and start and randomly there'd be nothing, it just wouldn't turn over or even click.

I replaced the lower ignition barrel that has been suggested on the previous post, but it still did it occasionally.

I then went on and following advice from the forum, removed the xyz (inhibitor) switch from the gearbox, opened it up, cleaned it out, bent the pins on the connector so they'd make a better connection and sealed it back up.

I haven't had an issue with this problem since and that was last year.

I'm not sure if the above is correct for your vehicle or not as they have different gearboxes, but worth a check.

Yep, could be that, or the immobiliser or the steering column etc... that's why you need some codes read as it night point you towards the problem...

It might not of course but it's the first place to start... Thumbs Up Pete

Another question, is the BMW X5 Ignition switch interchangeable with the L322, they seem a lot cheaper to buy
