Poor Radio Reception

I have what I believe is the standard radio installation in a 2004 TD6 Vogue.

The reception is awful and signal seems to fade in and out.

Is this normal or do I have a fault somewhere? If so, where should I be investigating?

I've also got a spare head unit (YIK 500030) but unsure of the differences or if it will fix the problem.

I haven't managed to improve the reception at all.

It's as if the RDS system on the radio just can't, or won't, retune to a decent signal.

It could be an aerial issue but I honestly have no idea.
