RAC Breakdown Cover - New L405 Battery

Whilst experiencing longer spells of not being used so much in recent months, our 3.0 TDv6 has regularly displayed the low battery warning. Despite intermittent CTEK top ups, it tended to revert to the low battery warning after a couple of weeks.

Anyhoo, with 3 days left before policy renewal was due, a call to RAC (the car hadn’t broken down) resulted in a technician at the door within the hour. No problem found with the alternator so the chap decided to fit a new battery FOC because the policy covers that. Great service.

A week later and the low battery warning is back on and the tailgate isn’t opening properly Confused

in theory if Ryan does have a secondary battery it shouldnt affect anything if its flat or disconnected [if you dont want the stop/start]..

unless theres a circuit that shows the state of the connected secondary battery in the dash menu.. ... - .- -.

Second battery is for critical electronics. Easy to access and check its state.

RAC changed the main battery with the same type as was in before. Chap didn’t know owt about RRs... yours truly had to take the spare wheel out to show him where the battery was... poor lad would have been in the engine bay all night otherwise Laughing

So the RAC didn't interrogate the car and tell the car the battery has been changed no?

I put a new battery in my XFR earlier this year and was experiencing the same symptoms are you are afterwards.

I needed to reset the Battery Monitoring System (BMS) after fitting the new battery. Shortly afterwards the 2nd battery failed so had to do the same again after replacing that. Ever since my BMS was reset, I’ve not had any other issues.

The L405’s are the same I believe. Thankfully, once I’d registered it, by IID tool worked on the XFR so it was easy enough to do.

Problem might now be resolved. The RAC wasn’t able to reconfigure because their equipment didn’t recognise up to 2015MY L405s. Called RAC back yesterday and the technician played about a bit with his “RAC Scan” and managed to do the reconfiguration by telling his kit that it was reconfiguring a 2017 RRS. This is what the job sheet says:
“Reconfigured battery parameters via 2017 Range Rover sport option on RACscan.”

All seems to be working as it should now... and it’s going into main dealer for a service this week anyway so any issues with what the RAC has done and they can sort them.
