Can won’t latch unlatch doors

Morning. It’s rather freezing outside. I manager to get into the drivers door and start the car but the door wouldn’t latch shut. Finally manager to latch it shut but now it won’t open. All other doors seem to be frozen shut as well and won’t unlatch.

I can hear the mechanism go but the doors won’t move.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue with door locks freezing when we had -6c to -10c here in Europe last week.

Fortunately I am able to park my car in a secure yard. I was able to open the tailgate Didn't want to run the engine whilst stationary to avoid DPF issues so put an electric heater in the back of the car for a couple of hours.

Once the doors opened I sprayed the locks with WD 40, which stopped the locks freezing.

All back to normal now that temperatures are above freezing. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

Sounds like they are all frozen up. Other than waiting for the temps to rise and hope it sorts it.... then you know what you are dealing with. Not exactly sure how to stop the latch mechanism freezing, but plenty of folk have put stuff on the door seals to stop them freezing to the door.

Not ideal, and after the event I know.

I wouldn’t try forcing anything unless you have to.

I out Gummi Pflege on the rubbers after reading about it in here and it works great, just tried them after a day of snow and -5c overnight.

For the locks, I wouldn’t used normal WD40, their silicone spray would be a better option MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I managed to get in via a back door. But I suspect the fronts are locked on deadlocks. I managed to open it earlier but now not a single bit of movement.

So full sequence;

1. I unlocked the car and got in the drivers door, but door wouldn’t shut. Had the car running for a while.
2. I couldn’t shut the door, I pushed it shut and then locked it. Made the alarm go as it opened again.
3. I couldn’t unlock it like it was half way in the catch. But then I pushed it in until it clicked.
4. Now I can’t open the door at all. Locks works unlock and lock.
5. Finally manager to open a rear door and my daughter climbed in started it and got the IID tool connected.
6. But no fault other than the usual speakers.
7. front doors won’t move at all and don’t do anything.

Very weird. I don’t think it’s frost as they don’t make that kind you crackling noise.

Three doors are open and closing now. But no movement in the drivers door grrrr. Shame my daughter is on a learners license. Then again it could be fun seeing my wife climb in from the passenger seat. As she doesn’t like driving the M2 in the snow 🤣

It’s like the drivers door is stuck on deadlocks if the car has them.

Very strange; I decided to reboot all the computers by changing a non important CCF to me. And voila the door all of a sudden opened.

All fine again.

Got there in the end. Strange though. My Fiesta Supersport didn’t do things like that 🤣 Good old electronics....

LOL Definitely. Like yesterday when I got a reduced performance situation. I could “hear and feel” the car was absolutely fine. But for some reason the computer disagreed with me. All it was was one tiny misfire, cleared it and it’s fine. On the old Golf MK2, I just give it the Italian tune up and off it goes again 🤣

had the same issue this morning though has thawed out now and is back working.
I have another post on this too.

from what i can work out there are cables from each door handle to the opening / closing / locking mech i think the cable has frozen and as the cabled are a well used you pull the door handle but the cable is frozen and will not open the latch.

it is like the gears on a bike my MTB does this in the winter too you switch for a change in gear but the cable does not move so the gear is never selected as the rear mech stays as it was. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Yes indeed. A first I thought it was deadlocks somehow stuck are it wouldn’t do anything. Then I though the computer reset worked. But I think your theory is more correct. the remote locking mechanism was stick working but both the inner and outer door handles didn’t seem to do anything. Then all of a sudden it worked like nothing ever was wrong. Crazy cars, but all forgotten once on the snow.

My wife was driving the Range Rover and I drove her BMW M2. Now the M2 was scary to drive. But I managed to get it safely to the detailer. LOL My wife and daughter were in awe as to how I manager to get down the chilterns and in the village without ever using the brakes ☺️👍 Old style driving has its advantages ...I just took manual control over the BMW and was gentle.
