They are chunky enough to re-face if you have access to a lathe.
I filed this one quite a bit to get rid of the burn damage.

Having identical issues to this where the click would occur when cold or when the battery was not 100% charged I changed the battery to no avail - then changed the starter motor and still the clicking occurs. I dismantled the original starter and the contacts were not perfect but not bad enough to suspect a non start issue.

When pressing the START button and the click occurs, everything shuts down as if the load on the battery was so much that it disconnects the power to the car. I'm guessing it's a bad connection somewhere, showing up when the current is highest - ie lower battery voltage or cold weather but where to start?? This is an L405 4.4V8 not an L322 but I guess they share the same starting system - and faults!! Rolling Eyes

Check that the battery terminals are clean and can be tightened firmly on the posts.

Yes - the battery was disconnected for starter replacement and checked for good contact. Everything is clean and the battery is 3 months old. I also connected another running vehicle with heavy jump leads to the terminals under the bonnet, and still had a couple of clicks before the starter turned so I assume the battery connections must be OK? Obviously the connection to the starter has been off and re-connected and that end is OK too. I did read somewhere that the cable may have some connections in it such as a fuse (on an L322 anyway) that may be a cause of high resistance, but I have no idea where this would be on mine or where to start looking,
When I saw all the posts about the starter contact issues I jumped in and assumed it would be the same issue, but would be interested to hear of anybody with the same symptoms which turned out otherwise.....
