L322 Camera - Replacement Rear View Camera Recommendations

Hello all,

Hopefully a very quick question, can anybody recommend a good quality replacement rear view camera?

There are many posts on this site that are many really helpful in walking through the diagnosis of duff cameras and how to remove the modules from the car, but the cameras listed are often shown via out of date eBay links.

I’m looking to keep the original housing and to fit a replacement camera inside. Is there a ‘go to’ model that is used? Or is it a case of try your luck on eBay? I’m guessing reversing lines/guides on screen is just personal taste?

Many thanks. Thumbs Up

Bryn

Just installed the one below. Good YouTube instructions and no soldering or special tools needed. Very good Picture except the camera has a narrower angle so show only the ground behind the car.

Thanks for posting this, it’s taken me a while to reply, apologies.

I also went for the eBay route, albeit a different camera....well it might have been the same camera in a different box.

This is the unit I purchased:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Reversing-R...890.l49292

I had to disassemble the existing camera and glue the new unit in place of the existing camera, it fitted really well. The connectors had to snipped off and soldered onto the new camera.

The quality is ok, I really need to compare it with a car that still has a fully functioning original camera to be sure. What I couldn’t find was a genuinely high quality camera, there must be one out there. Powerful are selling one for £100 or so, but again are they just taking a cheap camera and re-boxing it?

The upshot is, I have a working camera and can see behind pretty well.

Just to add to this discussion my son helped replace the camera on my old RR when it failed. He used a drone camera, there are many good ones available and some are almost universal in that you can set PAL/NTSC aspect ratio etc. Just need the correct lens for field of view. In my installation we simply removed the old camera from the housing, cut out some of the internal plastic and the "glass" window and then mounted the new camera with sticky pads and sealed around the lens with sealant so the glass window wasn't needed. Its been good for 2 years now. An example of the type we used is here: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/foxeer-predato...black.html They come with cables so just a case of soldering the correct wires together...... 2012 L322 Westminster V8 - Current

Well i am really surprised at how bad RR offering is compared to my navara.
0 night view at all even under street light you cannot really see.
the guides that come up in the screen do not move with the steering wheel.

My Navara had night vision and the guides worked really well. poor show from RR in my view so am thinking of upgrading at some point 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

JayK69,

Maybe I missed it from an earlier post but can you point the rest of us to the source and what model? Any details on the install? if this was covered in an earlier post maybe the link to the thread?

Thanks!

Replacement options can also be found here https://www.luxurylandroverupgrades.com/shop. His prices have gone up a fair bit since I had one off him but its far better than the original and no problems over last 4 years.

I installed the basic model from LuxuryLandRover, the one that requires you to take the old camera apart. I am not impressed. No better than the original camera except it has guide lines. Picture washed out. Next model up is same camera but already fitted in a housing so I would not buy that. Need to go for their most expensive version to get real improvement but I have not tested that one so just assuming.

That luxury land rover upgrades shop is a shambles. Breaks so many rules and regulations I would never order from there and through there.

Please people be very careful. Besides the legal side of things, any online shop not even bothered matching their email address to their domain in 2021 is just nuts.
