Checked it for oil leaks around filter? Whip off engine cover and peer down.

Checked this morning, level shows a few clicks down, no oil around the filter and no light today, I did notice the two times it’s come on I was facing up hill, not come on down hill or on the flat. It’s in for gearbox oil change tomorrow and full front arms doing etc so I’ve asked the garage to pop a pressure gauge on and see what actual pressure I have on idle. |

My local mot center whom I trust very much, have done some serious jobs for me in the past and friends, they undertake pretty much anything and are very good. |

Hello! Did this get resolved? I am getting exactly the same symptoms on my 2011 TDV8, except oil light blinks on regardless of whether on flat or slope ... any advice greatfully received. Engine shows full of oil and only recently serviced by local main dealer, driven some 2000 miles (thrash to Spain and back in between lockdowns) ... thanks for any help Simon |

Hi, changed the oil and filter and it’s not done it since. It only did this 3 times with enough miles in between to know it wasn’t immediately terminal. Probably don’t 700 miles since change. |

Many thanks TrevCOSS for replying, that is very helpful. I had the car serviced in June 3000 miles ago. Only started doing this in the last few weeks, after a good run to Spain and back. I'm not getting any oil leaks around the filter (or, unusually it would seem) anywhere else in this engine, but I am getting quite erratic oil level gauge readings - it will sometimes swing from "needing 1 litre" to "overfilled" in a few seconds though normally hovers around the "full" level. Maybe something clogged around the sensor or pressure gauge. I'll get my local dealer to look at it, though they charge a fortune just to open the bonnet and take a look. Joys of RR ownership! Many thanks again. |

Thanks Laurie, Dr Rob, all good advice. A good flush certainly sounds appropriate, I'ev done it on previous cars but not in the 15 months I;ve had this one. I expect most previous services will have just vacuumed the oil out, which I fear will leave any crud behind, and after 103k miles/165k kms I'm sure there willl be plenty. I'll try West 4x4 they're just down the road, I'd stuck to the local main dealer (now called Inchcape they used to be H A Fox) as they were close to where I work and looked after out previous car, Jag X-type 2.5 V6 ( four wheel drive) very well indeed for ten years (until it was 15 years old) and not particularly costly either. I'll let you know how I get on.

OK sorry for not getting back sooner but it has taken this long to sort. Mark at West4x4 was very friendly and informative over the phone but "booked solid till end November", Barclays 4x4 in Southampton were closed most of the Autumn bu when they opened they refused flat out to flush the oil, saying that, on an old car, it did more harm than good. Inchcape main dealer had a poke around, adjusted the oil level (they thought it was a little too high) and put a pressure gauge on the pump, saying it was ok, but again would not flush the oil. Mind you they didn't charge me for it either.

Good news Simon! You've reminded me to fit the new AD looms I bought when my fault came up. Mind you, I soldered the wire and it's not done it since so I'm loathed to dive in just yet |
