Battery terminal connection

Hi guys

Had a bit os a shocking week so far but hopefully ending on an easy one.

My pos battery connection to the battery pole is loose and it seems the previous owner might have 'lost' the correct nut (or whatever it is)

He basically has a standard nut on it but that does not seem to actually tighten (squeeze together) the 'loop' to the pole.

Is there a name for the thing I need - sorry if I'm being a bit vague..!

Thx Ash

I do in fact mean clamp - it seems to have an incorrect 'nut' (not the one doing it up) as it does not make it tight

No pun intended - My shocking week was a faulty fuel gauge (again) that suggested half a tank of fuel when in fact I ran out... trouble was, I was in the right hand lane of the M25 in a traffic queue at the time - The traffic then pulled away when the road in front cleared, leaving me unable to start the car, stuck in the fast lane at 4.30pm..!! Shocked Shocked

I did feel very privileged when the traffic cops closed the road just for me and then pushed me to the hard shoulder - it was a very scary 15 minute for me though with cars steaming up behind me. Ash

That's the thread I was looking for Bradders -- couldn't find the thing!

There is a lot going on at the +ve terminal

Is it the small nut/bolt right at the end that's the issue? Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Thanks chaps

I'll have to go and take a photo of mine - I suspect it is something like the very last image (circled in yellow) on the first page of that thread.

My clamp seem to have a dome shaped top as I look down on it - I do have a nut that I tighten but it does not seem to have anything that squeezes the clamp together.

Will post a photo when I can Ash

Sorry to resurrect this old post I’m still stuck on this one.

I did recently buy a new battery terminal clamp bolt but it made no difference. It did have the clamp on the underside but was slightly too big to fit in the intended ‘slot’

Mines a 2010 and it seems LR have a laugh by changing random parts from time to time. Although my connector is the clamp type, it seems to need a rounded part on top - either the nut itself or a ‘fat’ washer that closes the sides together from the top and not just the underside....?

I’ve attached an image and hope that someone can point me in the right direction ( cos the silver foil I used to enlarge the battery post is probably not the correct fix for this..! )

Thanks Ash

Thanks Kurt - yes I do - I bought them a couple of days ago and exactly what you show in your picture.

The issue is the larger T piece is slightly too large to fit in the slot available on the underside of the connector.

So I then took the official LR one off the neg cable and it was no different

It seems the of the ‘bolt’ doesn’t want a flat washer, it needs a dome shaped one (imagine drilling a hole part way through a nut with a drill that’s half the size of the bolt itself - you would end up with a cupped nut..! (sounds like it could be painful..!).

Anyway - there seems to be a bit of a domed head on the connector in my pic so needs the inverted domed nut.

Confused..... Ash

Mine isn't that tight. You can easily move it. Maybe they're all like that?

Sorry - I found an image online - hopefully I won’t go to prison for plagiarism..

Mine is identical to this - if you look at the nut ( the far left) on the top there is some kind of circular fat washer (or its part of the but itself)

Thanks Ash

The bolt part of that needs to be rotated 90° for it to work.

Here's mine. Not a great pic but it's a bit late to go in the garage and get a better one. Also has the circular flat washer - if that's what it is.

Exactly - agree the 1st pic needs to be 90° rotated

Here’s a better picture and its jus the nut thing i need

I can get the whole thing but its £78...! I only need the nut. I might try to drill though a spare nut to see if it will work... Ash
