Hi all, after 10 weeks static I am locked out with a flat battery

Before I order a CTEK and 13 pin adapter, is there anyway of getting in through the tailgate so I can pop the bonnet and jump it off the defender?

Would appreciate a PM if anyone can help, otherwise it’ll be the end of the week before charger and adapter are delivered.

Nope, nothing doing although on the bright side, after searching the forum I now know it’s something I need to fix.

Check underneath, you might just get to attach a jump lead to the starter motor cable.

You should be able to use the key in the door lock to open it, the lock will be covered by a plastic cover piece which needs popping off. Iirc it’s on the passenger door. You should then be able to put the key in and turn it.

Failing that the easiest way is to put some power in via the tow bar. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

As above you just need to put 12V on pin 9 and an earth on pin 13 of your towing socket. Bits of wire pushed into them and connected to a battery would allow you to open the doors.

So the key doesn’t open the door, a common fault and easy fix I find out today

I got hold of a 13 pin socket in an attempt to fashion my own adapter and after much swearing in the rain I find I have 2 x 7 pin sockets at the tow bar...who knew...I use the other thing for towing.

Anyway, anymore suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks Joe, had a look at a few 7 pin wiring diagrams but none make as much sense as this.

I shall try pushing a charger connection into the blue and white first thing. I did try a bodge earlier but I went for the red and then it rained and then I got bored. If no joy tomorrow I’ll splash out on the adapter.

Right then, a plan of action for tomorrow

Plan A - made up a couple of connection wires with socket plugs and going to try the charger route

Plan B - try and get the jump leads on the starter positive

Plan C - try and trip the tailgate manually

If either A,B or C are successful then get into the car, pop the bonnet and jump it off the Landy, or suck it up and get a new battery (might do that anyway).

If none of this works - order a CTEK and 7 pin adapter and cut about in the Landy for a week - which is fine, but it takes ages to heat up in the morning and then it’s super red hot, design feature apparently!
