Farmer’s hitch modification

Thought I might share this. My detachable westfalia hitch was far too low for my ifor Williams, so I bought a farmers hitch to compensate. Alas, even on the top setting it was still too low! And hung down like an anchor. So the solution was to cut the bottom set of holes off which allowed it to go in upside down. Ifor Williams now sits perfectly level.

Apologies for the photo, not sure how I managed that. Perhaps a kindly moderator could sort it out for me

My Indespension used to sit low but it was fine on my D4.

Caravan also sat slightly nose down but it was marginal. Good solution👍🏻 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I'm trying to figure out what you've done - as it looks like the holes you have are now level with the piece that slots into the receiver..... If that's the case, there's no need to turn it upside down ?

Also, just so that you're aware - it will no longer be VOSA type approved & therefore in the event of an accident...... etc etc

I have no idea why the holes are as low as they are, or why there isn't a set of holes at the top, but it seems to have been deliberately designed that way.

Well spotted Alistair. The holes I’ve used for the ball are ones I’ve drilled, otherwise the new lowest setting would have been to high if that makes sense.
Upside down to aid ground clearance, if I find a caravan or something that’s requiring a lower setting it’s only 3 bolts and I can flip it back over.
Cheers
Roland

Seems like a good solution - I could never really understand why there were not higher holes....
