I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is but thought I'd at least ask you guys on here about the car. Its a 2003 4.4 v8 petrol

Driving back from the Dr's and the hdc/ air suspension decides to pop up. No biggy as I know the steering angle sensor is dodgy anyways, carry on driving then the radio decides to shut down, then the transfail safe light comes on. Shortly after it looses throttle response and all the light clusters turn off with the usual warning lights of check brake light, check reverse light. Eventually it just shut down like it had no battery life.

Park up and look under the bonnet, all appears too be intact altho there's a burning smell so I'm thinking the alternator has possibly burnt out.

Sat back in the car and it started but was high revving at 3,000rpm.

Aa are enroute but thought I'd see if any of you guys on here have any thoughts

Yep sounds like the alternator is cooked but check at your battery first

Pretty much what I thought then. Pokey thing only lasted me 13 months... Typical when it had 12 months warranty 😂

Sounds like low voltage, so battery and alternator are prime suspects.

Without wanting to bring you down, the alternator can fail and take the battery with it....

Well that was a shambles. They sent a firm with a 3.5ton beaver tail truck to get me home.... Recovery op said too me I told them before he left a range rover can't go on his truck.

Got it jump started, battery boost pack left on too keep electricity running and it got me home. Was only 2 mile from home but drove with no issues. Can still smell a burning essence under the bonnet so I'll hazard a guess it's the alternator

So tomorrow will consist of looking at the alternator and checking the charge etc.

Any suggestions on who to buy an alternator from?

Oh deep joy, hopefully battery will be ok as its only a year old now but I'll know tomorrow

Finally found the strength to see what the issue is with the range is. Multi meter at the ready

Battery with engine off, 11.4v
Battery with engine running 10.2v

So guess I know what the issue is being the alternator. Had a look online and found a few ranging in prices.

I've used gentlmen of salvage in the past for quite a few parts and they've always been decent with their parts. Quick look online and find a bosch alternator for £75/offers on fleabay. Offered £50 and accepted so will wait for that too turn up Tuesday.

In the mean time, I've got a few days to take the current one off and get it ready for the replacement part.
