just had reduced engine performance msg come up!! ??

On the motorway driving back from IKEA and I noticed that the car was just not pulling away. I was doing just over the legal limit honest. No error msg's came up put pulled over to hold shoulder anyway. Put my foot down but nothing happened just coasted along. Switch off engine then on again and reduced engine performance came up. Tried to pull away and nothing again. Switch engine off and on again and this time he had lift off. Car drove fine again pulled of motorway to be on the safe side and drove home. Just when I hit traffic again about 5 mins from home the warning msg came back on. Just coasted home so not tried since. I know it could be many things but is there anything I can check? No other error msg's have come up.

Is that a fairly swrious/costly thing? I can remember when a hose when one of the hoses went in my s type JAG. Cost over £400 for a £3 hose.

i seem to remember the hose at the back of the engine splits and causes intermittent performance...dont know how much it costs sorry.

if the ECU has detected a fault in the system you'll need to find out why its getting that code by connecting it up to a fault reader... ... - .- -.

Think I better book it in then.

Looks like I better find a decent indy in Leicester.

Just had a look under the bonnet. Blimey the engines big ain't it! Shocked

Can deffinatley hear a faint whistle sound that only started today. Also might sound stupid but is there ment to be that much hot air blowing from the the bay near the air filter? Just took it for a little spin and all seemed fine buti didn't push it so engine wasn't put under any strain. The wifes gotta use it for work over the weekend and she never goes over 30 so I doubt if that will do any damage to it. Hopefully get it booked it on the Tuesday.

Mine lost a supercharger coolant hose but that I'm writing this on my iPhone and so can't 'mouse over' your avatar. Is yours an SC? If so, mine was covered under warranty but main stealer said it would have been £200.

If not, how squishy are your PCV hoses? Dan's posted some (as usual) excellent info on PCV.

Whatever, I hope it's cheap for you!

Well just checked all hoses I could get to and all seem fine. Car idles abit rough but maybe I'm just being picky as it's not very noticeable. I'll have to book it in as soon as. Wanted to get it serviced aswell so I'll get that done at the same time.

Something always seems to happen to my cars when driving to ikea. This is the third time a car of mine has shown faults arfter driving there. Think somebody's trying to tell me something!

So where is the MAF in a SC? I been looking on rave but it only shows location in standard v8 engine. I think I've found it but as I'm nut the best under the bonnet I'm not to sure. As long as a have instructions how to do stuff I'm alright. I'll have to give it a good clean aS I've seen on afew other sites.

Ok so I thought I'd do a quick update as this is abit confusing now.

Drop SC off to the indy yesterday to see what the problem was. Pick up late evening and indy had just cleared codes as nothing conclusive could be found with the car. They cleared 2 fuel pump codes (fuel pump sec circuit high & fuel pump sensor) Explained that issue only happens at high loads. Was told that if/when it happens again bring it back ato see what codes are thrown up. So I get the car and head out to open her up to see if it happens again. So driving at high load (legally honest) and the reduced performance msg flashes up again as expected but this time the mil light comes on as well (not happened before). So limp home and park up. Get my reader out to check codes and get 3 come up:

P0126 - insufficient engine coolant temp (ETC) for stable operation
P0118 - Engine coolant temp (ETC) circuit high input
P2601 - Coolant pump control circuit range/performance

So I drop the car back to indy this morning. Got a call this afternoon and the only thing wrong with the car was that the mil light was on. Indy couldn't pull any codes as nothing was stored even tho my reader got the above codes last night????

So I now have the car back. Indy reckons its the fuel pump but I have to wait and see if the they codes come back to confirm this. According to some figures may fuel pressure is slightly low. Just checked on my reader and no codes present so I'm kind of stuck now as I know if I was to take her out on the motorway the reduced engine performance msg would come back. I did a few print outs of my codes and gave it to em and mentioned the the bulletin about the auxiliary coolant pump that sometimes is cross connected but I dont think they actually took any notice of that. They think its the fuel pump but need more proof but I think its the coolant pump as there the codes that I have got in the last few readings before today.

I would have thought no matter what reader/software is used you would get the same codes come up? Theres is in more detail as it brought up a seatbelt sensor code but for the engine I would have assumed it would be the same. been quoted £500 to change the fuel pump if needed. I think this is covered by my warranty as it covers mechanical and electric fuel pump so that out so bad. So I'm not sure what to do now???

This is some freeze frame data that I got last night when the msg came up. Not sure if this is helpful or not?
