Windscreen Washer operation - why 2?

Right, I'm sure there's a bloomin simple answer to this, but its been annoying me and i can't think of (or find..) the reason why LR decided that there was a need to have 2 methods for operating the windscreen washers, i.e. pull lever (as in every other car) or press button (on the end of the stalk - MY07 on, not sure about before...)

The manual simply states "This feature can also be activated by pressing the button on the end of the lever"

Why 2? Just to be different? Surely they could have used the push button for something else more useful???

Pulling the leaver disables the rear wiper, so the side push button is needed.

Ideas on a postcard:

Ejector seat?

Tardis enablement? .
