Garage door opener

I tried this morning to "pair" my garage door opener handset unit to the car (2014MY L405), without success.
I did as instructed in the handbook and cleared any previous memory from previous owner and then continued with the recommended pairing procedure but with no luck at all.
I also tried the alternative method of pressing the handset button for a few seconds on a regular basis until the red light flickers and still no luck. It's no massive deal but if it's there I would like to use it.
Does anybody on here have a tip that I could try to make this work, please?

If your garage has a secure rolling code remote then you won't pair it to the car. The only way you'll get it to work is to downgrade the security of your garage and fit an aftermarket receiver that uses fixed code.

Ive had homelink on a few cars now and not one has worked with my gates or garage. Current

I just gaffer taped a remote to the ceiling of my D4 so I don’t have to fish about for it when I want to drive in....

+1 on the rolling code. my came gates won’t programme to anything but their remote or their app (so far) but there is always a work around by triggering the door or gates through an external unit, this will as said drop the encryption level required to get in. Some devices with rolling codes work some don’t depending on the software version installed... these are the compatible devices.

Have the same problem with the neighbour.

Have suggested something like this

I’ve spent more hours getting to a solution that works than I’d care to confess (I just hate giving up!).

My setup includes a complicated (apparently) combination of two JLR cars, each with Homelink, garage doors for each plus entry gates.

The only way I managed to get it all to work with my home hardware was to buy Homelink receivers for about £60 a pop which are installed next to and wired into the existing garage & gate receivers. They came from Germany (company is Chamberlain) but were pretty quick to arrive.

I watched countless instruction videos and still couldn’t get it to work. The underlying system comes from the US but there are some distinct differences (which I’ve forgotten) between US and ROW implementations of Homelink so if you’re outside the Americas please be cautious about relying on instructions that come from there.

I’d just stress that I needed to go down this route as I was programming more than one car with Homelink and my existing door and gate receivers weren’t 100% Homelink friendly.

Good luck is my parting message Laughing 2016 SDV8 AB

This almost sounds as if there is a generic problem with the way LR set this up then?
At first, I thought it was just my feeble brain not being able to grasp the detail, but obviously not.
I haven't heard one owner say that they have managed to get the thing working.
When I bought the car (used) I spoke to the sales guy and he was as vague as fog about the system.
I am marvelling at the fact that LR have installed an item that nobody can use??
I am almost at the point where I say "forget it" and carry the opener handset in the front cubby. Takes seconds to find it and press a button.
Damn good job the rest of the car is (so far at any rate) not too bad.

It’s just “purchased in” old tech which hasn’t been able to keep up with all the different gate and door manufacturers different systems at the same time. Arguably it’s pretty much the only solution out there which works with multiple manufacturers.

It will work in certain situation in combination with certain receivers but it’s mostly more trouble than it’s worth.

Hence the sticking a remote to the ceiling in the D4....it’s the one I drive through the gates the most! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
