So. I have followed the link to reset/fault find the towbar. I cannot get past A5 which points you towards the module. I assume this is in the boot on right. Haven’t found it yet but assume because my car is 2013 that it has an early module and that it needs replacement. I can get hold of the latest spec AG part is this a good idea or should I just buy an identical part with AF part code? It says use campaign code Q602 initialise. So what is the code and how do I initialise ?

sounds like its getting to the stage where a dealer or garage should get involved...

Thanks Stan. I’ll find the module and if old I’ll bring up to date with newer part. First I’ll try down powering it and switching it back on. This my fourth Range Rover, they can be testing! |

just an afterthought Jon, are all the towbar joints clear of crud and dirt, maybe a liberal spray of WD40 might help.. ... - .- -.

I’ve found the module. It requires the removal of the inside panel on the right of the boot to be removed in one piece. Just to find that it’s between the spare and under the lash down strip which also needs removal. Then two ten mm nuts see photos. I am ordering the latest AG module as mine was AE! Will let you know what happens next. |

The campaign code is for the dealer to recharge the issue under warranty. The early AE modules are the ones which had issues, an AF or an AG should be fine. I don't remember it being too much of an issue to get to the module - removing the three bolts that holds down the tailgate flap means you can move the carpet easily to get to it without having to remove the spare wheel.

Very useful, thanks Nick. AG on its way. If not that then suspect you are right and it’s the worm gear. I’m handy so would try to fix it. I saw powerful! Many thanks, Jon. |

Thanks Ivan. This was the YouTube I hadn’t watched! Fairly sure my problem is the same as theirs. I had previously retracted the towbar with a seven pin adapter on it. It had struggled and wound back to deploy position. Will hunt for this part. Does anyone know where I can get one? Or what part no. It is? |

Might be worthwhile giving Powerful a shout and see where they got their part from.

I'm not sure if they ever did find the part - I thought they just removed the broken bit of gear and it worked. However its unlikely that leaving the 7pin socket in would have broken the wormgear (done it loads of times myself) it detects it and backs it out so sounds like it did what it was supposed to but hopefully its just the module which is fried. Fingers crossed for you anyway - I don't fancy rebuilding that wormgear. Current Fleet:-

Thanks, fingers crossed as I can’t find the part anywhere including Westfalia. |
