Black? I do declare that Black was never a factory colour for early 2 doors? It was blue, red or poo brown. I had a factory black 1979 so not sure when it was an option.

That's a pre-production 'VELAR' ... so wasn't even subject to any factory build options - built between 1969 and 1970. Land Rover Addict

I was under the impression that the Velar said VELAR on the front? |

They might have Range Rover on them now, but they were pre-production, and before "Range Rover" was properly born, Velar was the name The one in the first pic is Chassis number 3 .... Land Rover Addict

Sorry to be a rivet counter but YVB 153H never had the word Velar on the front... It has always been badged Range Rover. |

In that case it never went out on the road, it's a pre-production Range Rover, the first 25 of which were VELARS, and as that one is number 3...

Super old photo of YVB 153h you can make out that it says Range Rover on the front - rather than Velar... |

Not arguing that, but it *is* a pre-production model, and they were known as "VELARS" Land Rover Addict

Infact - #1 is also labeled a Range Rover as far as I can gather. I would summise than the first 5 RR's were not Velar branded and it was the later 20 that were branded as such? |

But there were cars with Range Rover on the front, and there were cars with Velar on the front. Therefore - the Velars are Velars and the Pre-Prod RR's are RR's surely? How are you definding what is a Velar? Personally I am going by what badge is on the front of the car. |

...which would be really odd really, as they were trying to hide the RR

I'm defining it on the fact they were built prior to the release date, so assuming the other 20 were mules, and the first 3-5 were press cars, then they may have been hidden away and badged up, but still come up as a velar, die to preceding the next 20 chassis..... I believe they were "often refered to as" - however there is distinction between the 20 and the 5. Namely with the 20 having a velar badge on.
