Had a similar experience in my Sport but the bolt that I went over was kicked out of the wheelarch and up the rear quarter, causing a fair bit of damage.

Well I would have done the same, that's what you have these services for. Changing a wheel on any road, especially a motorway is just too risky. |

Safety first i say, you asses your situation and if the risk is too great you pay for LR assist / RAC / AA to help you in those situations. So yeah i agree you should call them it is not just your safety but other road users as well. |

Could definitely have been worse and I’d have done the same, pointless taking an unnecessary risk. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I agree, might depends on which wheel tho. A N/S puncture I would probably attempt, as I also have a decent jack in the car. o/s, on a hard shoulder. No way. Just too dangerous. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Totally unnecessary to use profanities on the form - still, the headmaster may be along soon to remove said profanity. I would do exactly the same on a motorway/fast A road - just think about the options ; 1) Change the heavy wheel yourself with a wafty jack (with a heavy car being blown about by large vehicles that cause a hell of a bow wave), a set of hazard lights, a hi-vis (maybe) & no-one to keep a lookout or 2) Get a professional with a decent jack, a vehicle with warning beacons in the fend off position and a second person keeping a watch out. Bit of a no brainer really. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6 |

Lovely. Here in Spain it is ILLEGAL to change a wheel yourself at the side of the road. A breakdown service must be called. Why would anyone wish to change a tyre on a FF at the side of the road anyway?? First reading was to ‘get’ the “WTF” reply... but ... never personally having had your experience in over 30 years of driving, your rationale is spot on and very well put... Who said this?... “There are old pilots, there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots!” 😂 A great ‘learning’ post... will never attempt nor encourage another driver to change a wheel on a motorway... if of courses roadside assistance is available to assist |

My mum was bowling along the M6 at a spirited speed in my Uno Turbo in the early 90s. She had a blow out on one of the rear tyres ( note: it was a Pirelli before you get on your high horse Brenda). Car was easily piloted to the hard shoulder where our boys in blue changed the wheel for her. They said if it had been one of the fronts then the outcome may have been a little more serious! It is actually amazing how these cars perform (though mine is an old L322) when under "pressure".
