Lean running SC

For education & entertainment

The trouble started due to take of the top cover of the engine to make pictures of it for the forum. Put it quickly back, it started to rain and Holland is not better than the UK.
Right, next day my wife took the RR to work, its her car I drive a Mini, and reported , after 20 minutes to me by phone, the check engine light came on and the car is smoking very heavy. All the streets are blue of smoke.
What can I do, she asked. I said, nothing I come to you to take a look.
Mmmm sounds expensive........I thought during the drive.

Wel on arrive, I started the car and man was she smoking, so opened the hood and immediate I saw the oil filler cap laying near shock top mount. Pffff simpel fix.............I thought.
No filler cap fitted, than no vacuum and on is the check engine light.
And, no vacuum than she sucks oil past the valve stems in cylinders and there is the smoke. Than the ECU is compensate the fuel mixture and triggers lean running.
So I clear the faults, being running both banks lean, and after a few miles drive al was wel. No smoke anymore and no faults.

Yeh wel........
Next day, again the yellow check engine came on. Saying running lean both banks.
Mmmmm..........cats stil filthy maybe? Engine is running so smooth, so than whats wrong. Clear the faults again but in 10 miles the where back. The engine was stil running very smooth with lots of power.

So I think I have two problems at the same time. Opened the bonnet again to look for a leaking vacuum hose or something like that. Nothing special at first sight. So connected the smoke generator and.........Yes there the are. Three leaks.
1- the oil filler pipe on the valve cover.
2- vacuum hose on the engine under the SC for the brake booster.
3- leaking connector in the hose on the PCV.

Fixed the leaks and now after 50 miles there are no faults, fingers crossed.
So if you have a car thats saying to you that she is running lean.......check her vacuum circuit. Ohh ......and check if you have put everything back in please after dismantle. Whistle Shocked Rolling with laughter

Weird - I posted about the oil filler neck leaking on mine and did a search no one had mentioned this before on here and no you are one week later. Did you lock it in where it should go? It still felt a little loose so I went 1/4 turn more all good now though Current stable:

Hi Sir,
No I fit the pipe back in the same place, but I at a little silicone kit to make sure it was air-tight and fixed in please.
I pressed the smoke in the air-intake in the hose just after the maf sensor and it came out straight away near that pipe.
Later on also on the more little hoses and connectors. But I didn't expect the filler pipe, I thought it was one with the cover.
I don’t think its weird Sir, just very accidentally .............. and the are RR
