hand brake calibration

Info- may be of interest and also has anyone experienced this? I went to park up this morning and a warning flashed saying handbrake needs calibrating. I tried manually resetting but didn't work. LR Assist attended and reported a sticking and corroded actuator. They were really helpful and are coming tomorrow with a replacement. Car is still driveable but handbrake is inoperative.

I agree, one side is working, the LR Assist guy was really helpful and is picking up a new actuator to fit. Saved me a lot of hassle by ensuring I could get home etc. The car is an auto and therefore parks on the pawl. Perfectly safe.

So it would pass an MOT test? The brake is a secondary emergency brake, I accept totally that under normal circumstances it's not needed and most people would have done (me included) what you have done BUT from a health and safety point of view and to the letter of the law they shouldn't have allowed you to continue IMHO. BMW i3 Electric Car

probably not pal but as LR Assist aren't actually the police I am pretty sure I could ***** them off and drive off anyway. The tech was really helpful. I'm sure there are plenty more dangerous ***** boxes than mine on the road particularly since COVID has provided an excuse to delay MOTs for some reason. Elf and shafety. brilliant.

Anyway, thanks for your concern. I was actually genuinely interested in constructive feedback on technical issue rather than a whinge about health and safety.
