Oil on rear tailgate

As the heading suggests I have spots of oil on my tailgate, not seen this before on my other 2. any ideas ? All working perfectly and no warnings or anything on the iiD, it does have a trailer attached for 95% of its miles, 2011 TDV8, any help appreciated, Rosco

Have you got a dipstick ?

I got this with my TD6 when the oil separator got clogged up. Blew out the dipstick and oil was blown under the car and up onto the tailgate area.

Or could be some other oily leak..... .

Rosco, you can run them for months like it sir... as long as you keep it topped up then the only damage it’s doing is to your driveway and your nose 🤭

No sir, yours would more than likely be the rocker cover gaskets...
👍

I used to have a similar issue with a previous white car but only when towing my caravan. I presumed the bow wave of the caravan some how pushed the exhaust gases forward and onto the tailgate. So I presumed it was 'unburnt ' diesel.
Also the front lower part of the van was covered in a smearing of oily stuff. But towing with the range rover it doesn't happen any more probably because the exhaust tips point downwards. You say you tow a trailer most the time?? Just a thought.
