Waze settings

I know there is a reasonable following for Waze on here so someone may be able to help but try as I might I cannot get it to output it’s sound over the car radio, I can do it if I select the iPhone as a device for my music and play Spotify from the phone but not otherwise. Am I right to assume this isn’t possible I actually like to listen to radio 2 every now an again particularly the hourly news bulletins . I’m sure others will have tried this but for me it’s a no go - am I wasting my time? Geoff

I don't think the car can combine sources - so it's all or nothing. I have music through my phone so it works for me, otherwise I guess the Wase commentary will just be on the phone's speaker.

I think I was thrown by a setting on Waze which suggests it can interrupt the music like the phone does - it doesn't work. Maybe Google is a better option, I only really want it for speed cameras as, unlike others, I find the standard maps OK not great just OK. If you could somehow get speed cameras on the standard maps that would be OK instead but I don't think you can do that either. Geoff

How about listening to R2 via the BBC Sounds app on your phone?

You can but it's an annual subscription & manual updates vs Waze which is free & automatic & also has mobile traps that have been reported.

There's a thread on it - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic19852.html Thumbs Up

Yep I did subscribe once before I know I can download the gpx database and upload 50k POI to the RR system. But as Alistair says it’s manual, costs 20quid and always out of date. I might still do it anyway 😀 Geoff

I can hi jack my own thread, notwithstanding my original issue Waze not interrupting built in radio which doesn’t work. I have accepted that and I can use the workarounds (plenty of data to listen to BBC Sounds) however Waze often displays a blank screen. Is it actually rubbish or should I persevere, I only want it to identify speed cameras on routes I am not familiar with. Geoff

I’ve never had a blank screen.

Occasionally it thinks I’m on a road parallel to the one I’m actually on, but I’m sure that’s down to the phone GPS.

Other than that, it’s great Thumbs Up

I’ve usually got a destination but not always.

Is the screen just blank or has it timed out/gone to sleep ?

Now sorted works as I want.

By default Waze is setup with Mobile Data off, I set it on, this is the blank screen problem sorted it has to download maps and info when on the move - simple schoolboy error.

Then I set sound to "play as a Bluetooth phone" rather than the default, it now mutes the normal car radio without resorting to BBC Sounds.

So simple errors on my part - just used it and it performed flawlessly muting the radio to let me know of Speed Cameras and Road Works etc on a recent trip, thats as well as providing the Navigation.

It's not data heavy but does need it, the reason I was fooled initially is that it downloaded my local map from my domestic WiFi. Geoff
