Noise in neutral / park ?

Hi all
3.6tdv8
I’m getting a metallic rattle (not bad) sounding like its from the bell housing, goes away when in gear but its there when in neutral or park. It’s been that way for around a year from when i 1st had the car.
Anyone had this? All ok otherwise...

Thanks

That is typical of a cracked or loose flexplate (loose as in a bolt coming loose from it).
You can have a peak at the flexplate from the inspection cover in the bell housing and rotate the engine by hand to check all the way around for cracks and loose bolts (usually 4 bolts although some might be 3 bolt).
This video explains (different vehicle but same applies to all autos):

I had similar on my M62 4.4V8 but even after removing the gearbox to check it I couldn't find a problem so it's not certain it is that.
Other typical metallic rattles could be loose heat shields which would sound more 'tinny'.
