I used some scotch bright on the aluminium, and a sanding block on the board, 3 coats later and there she is... the nice thing is it's now 100 anti slip as it's textured rather like grip tape on a skate board ( if kids still use that stuff in our days anyway! )

Thought I would share Smile

I'm really interested in this as a solution (ie repaint rather than replace), but in my browser all the photos are missing.

Interested more widely whether anyone else has gone down the route of refurbishment. Especially how much of the steps are actually paint and whether the metal inserts on the upper side are removable. I'm chatting to bodyshops at the moment and they haven't come across this before.

Thanks.

(This from an owner of a car just out of original warranty and been told by LR that they will not cover the steps delamination under the 6 year corrosion warranty as it's not "bodywork", nor will it be covered under LR's extended warranty as it's "paintwork". Feeling so very p****d off!) 2016 SDV8 AB

Hi Charles,

Thank you for joining in. Unfortunately no images have come through via ‘photo bucket’. Is that because it’s an old thread, although you must have viewed it. Perhaps the problem is at my end.

Regards,

Peter

I’ve redone mine twice now.

First time with satin black, which only lasted about six months, second time with truck bed paint which is still going strong a year or so later.

Sand down any oxidised metal to get any loose material off, then a quick coat of etch primer, then truck bed paint - as many coats as you like.

Lower doors, wheels, inserts etc need masking off, which is easy enough, but do do it as the paint is textured and would be a pain to remove after.
