Went to Lr for a D4 bit today.

Happened to be standing next to a D5 waiting.......

I think its a clever marketing strategy by LR... Make the D5 appeal to "hmmmm how to put this?" a more middle class demographic? Then release the new Defender that looks & feels more like a reworked/new model D4 & voila you have more customers!

The area around the gear selector / suspension controls etc looks exactly the same, which makes sense for them financially.

It’s the same with most manufacturers, that area is the same on a 1 series and 8 series (or X5/X7/3 series), the only problem being its 1 / 3 series quality rather than the other way around, so feels cheap on anything higher up the range.

The binnacle is very similar too and the general shape around the Nav and glove hole is also almost identical.

There are some subtle changes, however if you were to blindfold a 2015 405 driver then put them in and tell them it was a 2017MY FF it would take a few seconds to click.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

They look superficially similar but, to sit in, they are like chalk and cheese.

The Fatty has the large glass area, the deep and vertical windscreen and low dash and centre console of the old D4. Meanwhile, the interior of the D5 is more like a high riding, but conventional estate car. Possibly a Vauxhall Astra
