I think its a clever marketing strategy by LR... Make the D5 appeal to "hmmmm how to put this?" a more middle class demographic? Then release the new Defender that looks & feels more like a reworked/new model D4 & voila you have more customers! |

The area around the gear selector / suspension controls etc looks exactly the same, which makes sense for them financially.
